About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) regarding water drafting operations at Red Rock.

The RFI identifies an approved drafting location marked on a topographic map in the Red Rock area. For non-fish-bearing streams, the requirements include a minimum 2mm screen on the intake hose. Additional operational requirements are specified in an attached reference document (RS FSH 2509.22 - Soil and Water Conservation Handbook, Chapter 10 - Water Quality Management Handbook), which establishes the following standards: water drafting rates for non-fish-bearing streams shall not exceed 350 gallons per minute for stream flows of 2.0 cubic feet per second or greater; drafting rates should not exceed 50 percent of surface flow; water drafting should cease from non-fish-bearing streams when bypass surface flow drops below 10 gallons per minute; and intakes for trucks and tanks shall be placed parallel to water flow and screened with opening sizes consistent with aquatic species protection. These requirements establish environmental safeguards for water extraction operations while minimizing impacts to stream ecosystems and aquatic life.
