About this file

This document is a technical specification (Section 08 17 10) for Integrated Door Assemblies, specifically focused on cross-corridor door installations at a VA hospital facility. The specification details requirements for steel door frames, metal doors, hardware, and integrated components with specific performance standards, including fire resistance (NFPA 252, UL 10C) and smoke resistance ratings. Key technical requirements include using cold-rolled steel doors (1.0 mm thick), continuous hinges, exit devices, and hardware with specific finish specifications, and compliance with sustainable construction requirements like 30% recycled steel content and low-VOC materials.

The specification is directly related to a VA solicitation (36C24826Q0188) for a design-build project at James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida, involving replacement of two drop-down fire doors connecting Buildings 32 and 38 with fire-rated swing double doors. The project requires professional design services, demolition, construction, and installation, with doors programmed to automatically close when smoke detectors are activated. The solicitation was issued on 01/09/2026, with Phase I quotes due by 02/16/2026 at 10:00 AM EST, and may require work during non-standard hours due to high-traffic areas.

INSTALLATION - INTEGRATED DOOR ASSEMBLIES

Install products according to manufacturer's instructions // and approved submittal drawings //.

Install door hardware at locations indicated in DHI Recommended Locations for Architectural Hardware for Standard Steel Doors & Frames and DHI Recommended Locations for Builders' Hardware Custom Steel Doors & Frames, unless otherwise indicated, or to comply with requirements of governing regulations, or if otherwise directed by Contracting Officer's Representative.

Install door hardware in compliance with manufacturers' instructions, and templates. Comply with specified degree of opening for doors with automatic operators and overhead door closers. Securely fasten hardware. Confirm operating parts move freely and smoothly without binding, sticking, and excessive clearance.

Coordinate installation and interface wiring with fire alarm and smoke detection systems. Provide auxiliary contacts, relays, and interface for fire alarm and security systems.

Remove or protect door hardware, before painting and finishing performed after integrated door assembly installation.

Adjust and check door assembly and each operating hardware item to ensure correct operation and function. Replace products which cannot be adjusted to operate as intended.

Final Adjustment: Perform final hardware check and adjustment maximum one month before building acceptance or partial building occupancy.

CLEANING

Clean exposed surfaces, including hardware. Do not use cleaners that will harm finishes.

PROTECTION

Protect integrated door assemblies from construction operations.
