About this file

This solicitation concerns the replacement of the Holzwarth Culvert in Rocky Mountain National Park near Grand Lake, Colorado. The project involves removal of an existing six-barrel corrugated metal arch pipe culvert on the Holzwarth Access Road and construction of a new steel girder bridge with cast-in-place concrete deck, new bridge abutments, and micropiles. Additional work includes temporary stream diversion and riprap installation, new aggregate roadway surfacing, relocation of an existing electrical line, and relocation of historic head gates onto a new concrete slab. The bridge will be 10 feet wide by 48 feet long and will convey flow from the Colorado River while maintaining access to employee housing, the Holzwarth Historic Site, and National Park Service and Forest Service recreation opportunities at an elevation of 8,900 feet along US Highway 34.

Principal work items include removal of the existing bridge (1 each), roadway aggregate surfacing (120 tons), prefabricated steel bridge installation (1 lump sum), micropile installation at 8.68 inches diameter (180 linear feet), and temporary stream diversion (1 lump sum). The Federal Highway Administration solicitation (Number 6982AF27B000004) is anticipated to be advertised in September 2026 with award expected in December 2026. The site access is limited to foot traffic approximately one-quarter mile from the locked gate at the Holzwarth Historic Site Parking Lot, with the access road approximately 13 feet wide requiring temporary widening to prevent construction equipment from damaging sensitive environmental resources. Construction access is restricted to within 100 feet west of the bridge location.
