REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)
5 January 2015
Q31- Our Curtain Wall supplier is advising the spec designated a blast resistant curtain wall system, however the recent amendment indicates the glazing to be type 6. To the best of our knowledge type 6 glazing is not available in military grade blast resistance.
Please clarify.
A31: The specifications require the glazing to be performance engineered. All exterior glazing, windows, storefronts, doors, and door hardware for inhabited areas of this project must meet minimum DoD blast resistance requirements. The Contractor is required to provide glazing that meets this requirement. Even though glazing type 6 indicates a minimum lamination thickness, the glazing could be increased based on the performance blast calculations assuming explosive weight II at 30' standoff. The storefront specification 084113 is showing outdated blast criteria. The prospective bidders should refer to the aluminum window specification 085113 for the correct updated criteria and ignore the criteria in 084113.
