1.2 REFERENCES
A. NATO STANAG 3316
B. ICAO Annex 14, Vol. 1 Aerodrome Design and Operations, Section 5.3.24
C. Comply with host country laws and regulations – the most stringent standard prevails.
D. FAA: Federal Aviation Administration.
1. FAA AC 150/5345-43C: Obstruction Lighting Equipment
1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit the following:
1. Luminaire photometry.
2. Construction details.
3. Anchor bolt details.
4. Computer printout of maintained lighting levels and aiming angles.
5. Ballast and wiring diagrams.
6. Operation and maintenance data.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. The system shall be supplied as a complete integral assembly, appropriately designed for the luminaires and poles designated in the specifications. The Contractor shall provide evidence that the manufacturer has at least ten years’ experience manufacturing this equipment, with a minimum of five years’ local representation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. The lighting design and designation for this project shall comply with ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1.
B. Equality shall be determined by the following criteria:
1. Performance.
2. Distribution.
3. Utilization.
4. Uniformity.
5. Qualitative impact on environment maintainability:
a. Materials.
b. Mechanical design.
c. Quality of construction.
2.2 APRON FLOODLIGHTING LUMINAIRES
A. Luminaire finish shall be corrosion-resistant industrial black paint.
B. Acceptable products/manufacturers: PHILIPS MVF404 MHN- SEH2000W/400V/956 B8 (169400 lm; 2133.0 W) and PHILIPS MVP507 MHN- FC1000W/230V/740 NB/62 (83700 lm; 1100.0 W) or equal.
2.3 OBSTRUCTION LIGHTS
A. Furnish L-810 type obstruction lights which meet the requirements of FAA Specification AC 150/5345-43C, “Specification for Obstruction Lighting Equipment.”
2.4 POLES
A. Poles shall be in accordance with ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1. Poles shall be round or octagonal area tapered.
B. Poles shall be equipped with receptacle and have nearby reinforced handhole with a removable cover placed according to drawings.
C. Welded seams or joints which will be visible after complete installation shall be ground so that they will not be noticeable after galvanizing.
D. Luminaire mounting height shall be as shown on the drawings.
E. Poles shall be designed to withstand 100 mph continuous wind with 1.25 gust factor without failure or permanent deformation. Pole wind load design shall be based on poles installed with the specified luminaires, mounting brackets, and obstruction lights.
F. Each pole assembly shall include four anchor bolts (each with leveling nut, anchor nut, and washers), galvanized after threading. Bolt size
SECTION 26 56 23 Page 3 and length shall be as required to withstand design loads. Anchor bolts shall be furnished for pole base attachment to a structural steel plate. Coordinate anchor bolt requirements with structural provisions.
G. Pole and mounting brackets’ finish shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication.
H. Provide reinforced pole mounting brackets for floodlight luminaires 180 degrees apart and one 3/4-inch pole top tenon for mounting an obstruction light. Mounting brackets shall accommodate specified luminaire-mounting requirements and accommodate wiring internally.
I. Assembly shall provide means to support all pole riser wiring without depending on the luminaire attachments.
J. Submittals for approval of poles shall include calculations to demonstrate that the complete structure will meet the continuous gust wind loading criteria, and shall also include complete shop drawings of the poles with specified reinforcements and handholes in detail.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Poles:
1. Verify, before assembly of poles and luminaires, that exterior finishes are not chipped or otherwise damaged.
2. Pole sections shall be assembled according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
3. Poles and luminaires shall be completely assembled and wired before erection.
4. Erection shall include the following:
a. Set leveling nuts on anchor bolts with enough freedom to permit leveling pole.
b. Raise pole and set on anchor bolts without slinging. Set anchor nuts only finger-tight before leveling.
c. Level base plates by adjusting nut pairs until pole is vertical, then tighten anchor nuts securely while checking that pole remains vertical. Install anchor bolt/baseplate cover if used.
d. Make wiring splices in handhole, dress wiring, and install handhole cover.
3.2 LUMINAIRE AIMING
A. Apron area illuminance design levels shall be:
1. Horizontal illuminance – 20 lux with a uniformity ratio (average to minimum) of not more than 4 to 1
2. Vertical illuminance – 20 lux at a height of 2 m above the apron in relevant directions
SECTION 26 56 23 Page 4
