QuestionResponse
17We have a 2nd floor demo plan, but I do not see a lower level ceiling demo plan. What is the extent of the ceiling demo on the 2nd floor?Note G on AD101 indicates all ceilings are to be removed at the first level.
18Sheet A201, Keynote #13 directs us to provide windows that meet the ATFP design standards. I have not found these standards defined in specifications 08.41.13 or 08.44.00. What are the requirements?Glazing required to meet AT/FP requirements will be 1/4-inch laminated glass consisting of two nominal 1/8-inch glass panes bonded together with a minimum of a 0.030 inch interlayer of a material designed for blast resistance. The innermost pane of insulated glass units (IGU) will comply with this requirement. Glazing frame bite will be in accordance with ASTM F 2248.
19Are the construction drawings for the existing building available?Yes, they have been posted for reference only. Accuracy can not be confirmed.
20There are two specifications listed for the metal roof system, 074113 metal roofing and 076114 standing seam roofing. Please clarify the scope associated with each of these specifications.07 41 13 is for the pre-engineered canopies. 07 61 14 applies to the building roof.
21Several locations show new HVAC duct running parrallel or diagonally over existing walls to remain (see attached sketch). Do these walls currently extend to the deck? How will the existing walls need to be modified to accomodate this condition?Drawing A003 Indicates which new walls are full or partial height. Existing building drawings A.01 and A.02 identify existing fire rated walls. Obtain existing drawings from the base. New duct penetrations through full height existing walls will require demolition to frame out and seal these openings.
22What is to be included in ABI 04 Kitchen Equipment compared to the Base bid? Demo, storage, cleaning, installation, new equipment, etc...?The bulk of equipment as directed per AD-120 is to be removed. ABI #4 includes:

1. Only new equipment to replace equipment being removed and not put back later.

The Base Bid encompasses everything else, including:

1. New freezers and coolers (per specification 11 41 11 and drawing M-703). Note: the comment in parenthesis at title of Equipment Schedule on sheet Q-120 stating that the freezers and coolers are GFCI is in error.

2. Equipment to be removed, cleaned, stored, and reinstalled at completion per drawings A-120 and Q-120 and UFC 02 41 00. Note: some keynotes on sheet A-120 mark the location of new equipment for information and coordination purposes only for Base Bid, and are labeled N.I.C.

3. The remaining balance of all removed equipment to be salvaged and turned over to the Government per drawing AD-120 and section 3.3.3c of UFC 02 41 00.

23C101 shows a new 8'x12' metal canopy and refers us to architectural and structural plans for details. I have found no reference to this canopy on the architectural or structural plans. Please clarify the requirements.Construct slab according to B2/S504. Provide a pre-engineered aluminum, open canopy with metal roof in accordance with site canopy drawing: A-560/Canopy Plans, Elevation and Details. .
24C101 directs us to remove and replace the existing handrails on the ramp and refers us to detail B1/C501. There no ramp rails shown in this detail. Please clarify the requirements. The handrails shown in the detail B1/C-501 are representative of the style, material, color, as well as the attachment requirements for all locations around the building including ramps.
25There is a 9 ft elevation change between the top of the footing at the mechanical room addition and the adjacent grade (the road). The work requires us to demolish a portion of the existing retainaing wall and build a new retaining wall. OSHA regulations require that the bank be laid back or shored during constuciton to protect the workers from an open excavation. Is road closure an option or will you require that the bank be temorarily shored to keep the road open.?A temporary road closure is acceptable so the excavation can be properly laid back. The contractor would be repsonsible when taking this approach for road repairs.
26Curtainwall spec 084400 para 1.3.5.5 calls out an “opaque” U-factor of no greater than 0.29. Glazing spec 088100 para 2.2 calls out a U-factor of 0.4 or less for the insulated glass units. Drawing A003 thermal shielding table lists fixed glass windows as having a U-factor of 0.40. Is it correct to assume that the entire curtainwall system (glazing + framing) should have a U-factor of 0.40 or less, and glazing should be selected as required to meet this overall system thermal performance?Yes, assume U-factor of 0.40 or less, and glazing should be selected as required to meet this overall system thermal performance
27Could micropiles be used in place of helical piles? Please adviseThe helical piers are designed and specified based on a site-specific geotechnical investigation, use helical piers as specified.
28The IG unit specified in glazing spec 088100 para 2.2 last paragraph lists an IG unit makeup of bronze tint (uncoated) on the exterior lite, and clear(uncoated) on the interior lite, with argon fill. Are low-E coatings on the IG units acceptable to improve the thermal performance of the IG units in order to meet the overall window system U-value requirements?Yes, low-E coatings are acceptable
29Doors are listed as impact resistant in para 2.2 of spec 084113. Are there any requirements for impact resistance on the storefront and curtainwall not associated with doors? The glazing needs to meet AT/FP requirements. Glazing required to meet AT/FP requirements will be 1/4-inch laminated glass consisting of two nominal 1/8-inch glass panes bonded together with a minimum of a 0.030 inch interlayer of a material designed for blast resistance. The innermost pane of insulated glass units (IGU) will comply with this requirement. Glazing frame bite will be in accordance with ASTM F 2248.
30B1/C501 shows a (2) line aluminum handrail with a powercoat finish for site ramps and stairs. Details on sheet A540 show a steel handrail with pickets and a field painted finish. These details appear to conflict, please clarify the requirements.Railings will be aluminum with powder coat finish, Dove Gray.

49Please provide information on the type of control system (brand and model #) of your current access control system. The ACS brand and model is determined by the Base. The design is for infrastructure only (conduit pathways, door pathways, backboxes for card readers, etc). The Base Security Contractor will provide the system and ACS wiring.
50The Equipment schedule on sheet A Q-120 states that the Freezer/Coolers are GFCI. However, Sheet M-703 states to provide Freezers and Coolers. Can you please clarify who is providing the Freezers and Coolers? The contractor will demo the existing freezers and coolers and provide new per specification 11 41 11 and drawing M-703.

55The 2 stop base bid we can provide the hydraulic elevator design. For the alternate of 3 stops at 37’ 10” of rise the hydraulic design cannot accommodate this. the design will need to be changed to the EVO 200 traction elevator design. This will change the hoistway dimensions, pit, overhead, and electrical. Now we can provide the traction design for the 2 stop and the 3 stop. If they are think about adding the 3rd landing for a future the traction is the only option.Basis-of-Design is Thyssenkrup MRL Hydraulic elevator: 2-stage for Base Bid 2-stop version, and 3-stage 3-stop version with 1'-0" added to the pit depth, 5'-0" total.
