Medeia Shipyard 2023 Ultrasonic Testing Reports/Findings/Trouble Areas
· Coffir dams: Port side underneath drip zone on shaft couplers showing wear. New plating installed 2020 Shipyard. Considering painting trouble spots and installing a panel underneath drip zone. Stbd side showing consistent wear on outboard side (3/8” thickness) w/ readings of .265, .287, and .263” on the uphill side of the coffir dam.
· Stern tubes: Port side showing minor diminution on sides and bottom. Top of stern tube showing little wear. Stbd side more consistent overall, but still minor wear on sides and bottom of stern tube.
· Bow area near anchor: Showing some diminution around anchor pulpit and surrounding areas, but nothing too alarming. Remaining areas in anchor winch area fairly consistent with good integrity.
· Transverse belt frame 42: Showing wear on port side vertical panels, lowest reading .298 with surrounding areas around .308, .312.
· Exterior Hull: On the stbd side, fore of the stabilizer it looks like the stabilizer used to continue approx. 10-12 feet farther than existing. Where stabi was removed, along the weld line there is some deep gouging from removing the stabilizer. Something to keep note of, paint seems to be doing its job and no signs of corrosion in gouged areas.
· Bilge Pump under fiddly stairs: Slight diminution in outlet pipe coming from pump. No real concern, but good to keep an eye on.
· Areas underneath Head pumps/Freshwater pumps: There are a couple trouble spots on the bottom hull plates, mainly superficial/paint chipping/minor corrosion. Need to needle gun/prep 88/paint to prevent further corrosion spreading.
· Area underneath reefer compressors: Areas of concern were around shell plating repair done in 2020, areas looked good. Slight areas of diminution inboard of plate repair, just aft of BH Frame 41. Nothing of great concern, worth keeping an eye on.
· SUMMARY: Overall, thicknesses were great. Problem areas were port side coffir dam under the shaft drip zone. Stbd side coffir dam showing general wear on the uphill section (3/8” thickness). Stern tubes are showing slight diminution on the sides and bottom of tube. Frame 42 on the transverse band, vertical panels showing slight wear. Outlet pipe for bilge pump underneath stairs showing slight wear.
