Fillable Forms - calculating losses on Schedule C Dear ______

Thank you for contacting the IRS Web Site Help Desk. I apologize for your less than satisfactory experience using the Free File Fillable Forms program and for the delay in getting back to you.

At the current time, if, after clicking "Do the Math", the amount on Schedule C line 29 (Tentative profit or loss) results in a loss, the loss will not not carry down to line 31 and will not carry over to the Form 1040.

To fix this problem:

1. Check the correct box on line 32a or 32b to show whether your investment is at risk

2. Enter the loss amout on line 31 as a negative amount.

3. Click on "Do the Math"

4. Click on "Done With This Form"

Your loss should now carry over to your Form 1040. If you have more than one Schedule C, be sure to follow the instructions for reporting a loss for any Schedule Cs that have a loss. The program will add the net profit or loss from all of the Schedule Cs and report them on Form 1040.

Sincerely, The IRS Web Site Help Desk English Free File Fillable Forms - Changing Account Information-020409

Fillable Forms Form Printing Issues - 012909 The program will not print a form until it has a direct effect on the primary form. For example. If a taxpayer has filled in Schedule D but has not pressed the "Do the Math" button and the capital gain amount has not flowed to the Form 1040, there is no connection to the form and it will not print. Once a line item appears on the return that has been imported from another form, it will print.

Here's the solution

• Fill in the form or schedule

• Click on "Do the Math"

• Click on "Done with this Form"

• Check to make sure that the number has flowed from the Form to the primary form.

• Click "Print"

• Scroll down and make sure that the form is displayed in the print window

• Click "Print" English Free File Is this really the site I am supposed to use? 011909 Yes, http://www.freefilefillableforms.com [ Redirects you to http://www.irs.gov ] is really the site I am supposed to use. English Free File Free File Provider Access Problem - 120408 Thank you for contacting the IRS Web Site Help Desk.

Due to the wide variety of browser configurations, we occasionally hear of access problems that prevent taxpayers from navigating efficiently when using the Free File program. We are currently aware of two access problems that have been reported by Free File users.

“Browser Configuration Required” This most often occurs when using the back button to move back and forth between IRS.gov and a Free File website. If this occurs, return to the Free File company landing page and select the link to return to http://www.irs.gov. This sometimes also occurs when directly accessing a Free File website. If this occurs point your browser to http://www.irs.gov, access the Free File program and move to a company by selecting a company from the provided list or use the “Guide Me To A Company” button.

“404 Error (Page Can Not Be Displayed”

Unfortunately, this is a fatal error and there is nothing that IRS can do about this problem. Some browser security configurations are not compatible with the “Guide Me To A Company” program or to our re-direct page when leaving http://www.irs.gov. If you are encountering this problem while using the “Guide Me To a Company” tool, try selecting the company directly from the list provided on the Free File landing page. In most instances this will eliminate the error. On rare occasions the 404 Error also occurs when using the list. If this occurs, try selecting a different company or using another computer. IRS does not suggest changing or adjusting your security settings on your browser.

The Free File program currently covers 70% of all taxpayers filing forms 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ.
