About this file
This is a specification document for an aquatic filtration system section of a pool facility renovation project at Kennedy Memorial Park in the Incorporated Village of Hempstead, New York. The specification describes the design, installation, and warranty requirements for pressure sand filtration equipment serving three distinct aquatic facilities: a competition pool requiring a Mer-Made Filter Model 160-109 with 41.6 square feet of effective filter area and 624 gpm system flowrate to achieve a six-hour turnover of 206,252 gallons; a family pool requiring a Mer-Made Filter Model 143-56 with 16.2 square feet of effective filter area and 172 gpm system flowrate for a six-hour turnover of 33,660 gallons; and a spray park requiring a Mer-Made Filter Model 160-109 with 41.6 square feet of effective filter area and 500 gpm system flowrate for a thirty-minute turnover of 15,000 gallons. The contractor must submit manufacturer data, shop drawings, and installation instructions within thirty-five calendar days of receiving the Notice to Proceed. All filter equipment must be NSF-listed at the time of bid, supplied complete by a manufacturer with minimum five years experience in filter fabrication, and factory-assembled with minimal field assembly required.
The specification establishes comprehensive warranty provisions including fifteen-year fully rated warranty on filter tanks, three-year warranty on internal and external face piping, five-year warranty on valve bodies, and one-year warranty on valve operators and system accessories. All fiberglass filter tanks must be suitable for 50 psi working pressure, hydrostatically tested to 1.1 times working pressure, and constructed with premium vinylester resin meeting ASTM C-581 standards. The specification requires Schedule 80 PVC piping with machined slotted laterals, cast aluminum or iron valve construction with specific coatings, and T304 stainless steel hardware in wetted areas. Sand media must meet specific gradation requirements with particle size between 0.45 and 0.55 millimeters, with minimum bed depths of 24 inches for competition and spray park pools and 21 inches for the family pool. A qualified field engineer must be provided for at least three days to inspect the installation, adjust controls, place the system in operation, and provide operating instructions to Town representatives. The work shall comply with New York State Swimming Pool Code, New York State Sanitary Code Part 6, and applicable governmental agency regulations.
