The work in this Section includes conduit systems required for power, lighting and other systems requiring raceways.
B.
Systems included, but not limited to, are alarm, telephone, TV, communication, music clock, monitors, grounding, security and others noted on the drawings.
1.2
COORDINATION
A.
Contractor responsible for coordinating location of raceways and cable trays with other disciplines prior to installation.
1.3
SUBMITTALS
A.
Provide manufacture’s literature.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1
MATERIALS
A.
Rigid conduit shall be galvanized rigid steel conforming to Federal ANSI C80.1 and U.L. Listed.
1.
Conduit run underground shall be galvanized rigid steel as listed above, and shall be asphalt-coated or PVC-coated. PVC conduit shall not be used unless noted on drawing.
B.
Intermediate metal conduit may be used only as permitted by the National Electric Code.
C.
EMT shall be galvanized steel conforming to ANSI C80.3 and UL Listed. May only be used where rigid steel is not called for or required by Code.
1.
Connectors and fittings size to be steel compression type (cast metal is not acceptable). Setscrew type is not acceptable.
2.
EMT shall not be used in wet locations and in concrete and masonry.
D.
Flexible conduit shall be galvanized flexible steel conduit conforming to U.L. 1. Use polyvinyl and Neoprene-covered, waterproof type with waterproof connectors for exterior use, wet areas, and connections to motors and equipment.
1. All fittings shall be steel (cast metal is not acceptable).
E. PVC conduit shall be Schedule 40 electrical non-metallic conduit - type PVC.
1. PVC conduit installed shall be rated for installation, i.e. open, direct bury, or concrete encased.
F.
Insulated bushings shall be O-Z/Gedney Type B, SB or SBT as required.
G.
Type MC or any prewired flexible metallic cable shall not be acceptable or used.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1
INSTALLATION
A.
Metallic raceways used throughout construction for all conductors unless otherwise specifically indicated. Separate raceway systems shall be used for each auxiliary system such as telephone, exit lights, fire alarm, communication or signal system. Minimum size conduit for all raceway systems to be 3/4", 1” minimum for tel/data.
B. Types of Conduits
2. EMT shall be used where concealed in framed walls or exposed in mechanical spaces. EMT may only be exposed in finished spaces where approved by Project Officer.
3. IMC shall be used in masonry walls or where exposed in finished spaces or wet locations.
4. Rigid galvanized conduit shall be used where installed in concrete slab or for penetrations through slab.
5. PVC coated rigid galvanized conduit shall be used for exterior buried applications unless otherwise noted.
6. Non-metallic conduit shall only be used where called for on the plans or elsewhere in these specifications.
C. Sealtite flexible metal conduit shall be used for connections to motors and equipment. Minimum length of 12". Maximum length for connections to motor driven equipment - 36".
D.
All conduits shall be provided with locknuts and insulated throat connectors.
E. Conduit shall be concealed in finished spaces, unless otherwise indicated.
F.
Installation of raceways to be coordinated with installation of other trades, in particular, ductwork and piping. Location of mechanical equipment and systems to take precedence over raceways location. Installation shall not restrict equipment maintenance space or access thereto.
G.
Hanging of raceways done in suitable manner using conduit clamps, Unistrut brackets, racks, etc., or other approved methods. Hanging off ductwork, suspended ceiling support wires or resting on ceiling support system or ceiling material is not permitted. Installation shall not interfere with removable ceiling panels or access openings.
H.
Annular openings around conduit penetrating fire barriers such as floors, fire rated walls and fire rated ceilings shall be fire-stopped as specified in Section 16000, paragraph 1.15.
I.
Conduit or raceway shall not be run through ductwork.
J.
Support systems for electrical raceways shall not be independent of all other supports systems for other equipment.
K.
Mechanical room and interstitial space shall be considered unfinished.
L. All raceway shall be installed and supported to meet seismic zone 3 requirements.
M. All PVC joints shall be solvent welded.
N. Install pullcords in all spare ducts and conduits. Pullcords shall be mildew resistant nylon or polyester material rated at a minimum 500 lbs.
3.2
GROUNDING RACEWAY SYSTEM
A.
All noncurrent-carrying metallic parts of electrical equipment and all raceway systems shall be grounded.
B.
Ground raceway systems and cabinets for auxiliary systems by bonding or by conduit interconnection with the electrical system or as otherwise specifically indicated on the drawings.
C.
Provide a ground wire with all conduit properly connected at each end with approved fittings with binding screw. Ground wire sized per NEC 250-122.
D. Install #4 ground wire entire length of installed cable tray. Bond to each section. Ground wire shall be run entire length of tray and bonded to ground bus in data/com rooms.
