B.
Contractor Qualifications—Installation shall be performed by a seamless flooring contractor with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the application of the type of system as specified in this section, and shall be approved by the manufacturer of the Epoxy Quartz Flooring System. The contractor's key personnel, including the field supervisor and technicians, shall have not less than three (3) years experience.
C.
Floor Thickness Verification—At the Contracting Officer's direction, and under his supervision, the Contractor shall take one (1) random core per 1,000 sq. ft. through the floor to the substrate, prior to applying the seal coat, to verify proper flooring thickness. The cores shall be removed and replaced by the installing Contractor, in a manner that does not affect the integrity of the overall floor.
D.
Certification — Upon the completion of each section of floor, a representative of the contractor will certify in writing the amount of square footage and the number of gallons of 100% solid epoxy resin, excluding coved base, primers and sealers that have been used in that section of floor.
E.
Samples Area — After approval of submittals, install a sample of the flooring and base in a single room (to be assigned by the Contracting Officer) to establish the quality to be provided throughout the project. No further installation may be done until the sample area is reviewed and approved by the Contracting Officer.
1.7 MATERIAL DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE
A.
Primary system materials shall be delivered in the manufacturer's undamaged, unopened containers. Each container shall be clearly marked with the following:
1. Product name
2. Manufacturer's name
3. Component designation (A or B, etc.)
4. Ratio of component mixture
5. Date of manufacture or "allowable use" date
B.
Store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, with seals and labels in tact and legible. Maintain temperatures within the required range. Do not use materials which have been stored for a longer period of time than the manufacturer's maximum recommended shelf life.
1.8 JOB CONDITIONS
A.
The applicator's and manufacturer's representative shall visit the job site prior to beginning the application of the Epoxy Quartz Flooring System to evaluate the extent of repairs required. Testing shall also be done to verify that the moisture content of the slab does not exceed that as recommended by the manufacturer. The contractor and manufacturer's representative shall certify acceptance of the substrate.
1.
Examine substrate before application of finish. Surface shall be flush, true to plane and line, and level within specified tolerances.
B.
The applicator shall exercise care during surface preparation and system application to protect surrounding substrates and surfaces, as well as in place equipment. The applicator shall use his discretion as to the physical means and methods used for preparation and protection. Any costs incurred for resultant damage from negligence or inadequate protection shall be the sole responsibility of the applicator.
C.
During material application, care shall be exercised to comply with the temperature and humidity limitations of the materials used as defined by the manufacturer. The system shall not be installed if the substrate or air temperature is less than 65( F or if relative humidity is more than 85%.

PART 3 ‑ EXECUTION
3.1
INSPECTION
A.
Examine areas to receive the work for defects which will affect the execution of the work and for deviations beyond allowable tolerances.
B.
Start work when defects have been corrected.
3.2
SURFACE PREPARATION
A.
Protect adjacent surfaces from staining or damage caused by installation.
B.
Prepare concrete by means of vacuum blasting, removing all contaminating or bond breaking substances, including but not limited to dust, laitance, curing compounds, coatings, sealers, oil and grease. All spilled or deteriorated concrete shall be mechanically removed by scabbling or chipping hammers. Acid etching or other chemical preparation is not acceptable.
C.
Joint and Crack Repair
1.
Rout, saw out or rake out cracks and non‑expansion joints after surface preparation, and fill with STI semi‑rigid epoxy. Filled cracks or joints shall have fiberglass cloth or flexible urethane "Band aid" applied over them to further inhibit cracks from telegraphing through epoxy.
D.
Sloped floor area, to receive cementitious fill shall be built‑up from concrete slab with epoxy underlayment system. Level areas shall meet flatwork concrete level and flatness tolerances. Sloped areas shall slope in uniform planes to low points as indicated. Tolerance shall be 1/8 inch maximum deflection in 10 feet.
3.3
APPLICATION
A.
General
1.
Apply each component of the Epoxy Quartz Flooring System in strict compliance with manufacturer's written installation instructions, including mixing and application methods, recoat windows, cure times and environmental restrictions. System shall be applied directly over all treated joints and cracks. The system can NOT have any pinholes.
2.
Manufacturer's representative shall be present during installation of sample area.
B.
Epoxy Cove Base—Cove base shall be tapered 1/8 inch thick at the top and 1/4 inch thick at the bottom and shall be applied before floor surfaces. Shall have a feathered upper terminating edge of the cove base Mix 100% solids thixotropic epoxy resin and granules as recommended by the manufacturer. Apply this mixture over the primed vertical substrate using a 3/4 inch radius cove base tool. Bottom of cove shall have temporary screed matching flooring thickness to prevent unevenness where subsequent floor application meets cove. Seeded cove base will not be accepted.
3.4
CURING, CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A.
Cure all flooring materials in compliance with manufacturer's directions, taking care to prevent contamination during stages of the application and prior to completion of curing process.
B.
Protect Flooring from damage and wear during other phases of the construction operation using temporary covering as recommended by the manufacturer. Remove temporary covering just prior to final inspection.
C.
Clean Flooring just prior to final inspection, using materials and procedures suitable to the system manufacturer.
