About this file

This document contains an environmental review worksheet and related federal contract opportunity for pier repair work at the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center in the Bahamas. The environmental review worksheet details the proposed pier repair project, which involves removing the existing superstructure but incorporating the existing steel piles into a new closed-pier mole-type structure with steel pipe piles and compacted structural fill. The new pier will include utilities such as shore power, potable water, and lighting. Coral relocation and mitigation will be required prior to construction. The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command for design-bid-build construction services for the pier repair project. The firm-fixed-price contract is estimated to be between $25-100 million according to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement. The pier repair will replace the primary operational pier facility at AUTEC and is intended to support ongoing operations at the testing range located on Andros Island.

Environmental Office Comments:: A revised DC1056 will be submitted once the 'unknowns' are determined, but this ER is sufficient for the bid package.

The coral mitigation must occur within 6 months prior to project start. If project is significantly delayed and coral mitigation has occurred, a new underwater survey of the pier is required. Prospective dredge material must be sampled for specific contaminants. AUTEC is responsible for the sampling.

All hazardous materials must have prior NUWC AUL approval.

All unused hazmat must return with vendor to the States upon project completion Any hazardous waste must be appropriately collected and turned in to the AUTEC Hazardous Waste Facility for disposal.

All recyclables must be turned in to the AUTEC QRP.
