RADON MITIGATION
11/18
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
Provide all work necessary to reduce and maintain radon concentration levels below 4.0 picoCuries per liter (pCi/L) in various buildings specified herein. Perform mitigation system installation, and perform post-mitigation testing and monitoring for radon.
Radon mitigation system shall be constructed in three (3) main phases:
a. Provide layer of compacted thickness of clean, coarse gravel, to size aggregate, perforated pipes, and soil gas retarder membrane under slabs, seal all slab penetrations, manifold pipes as necessary, connect vent stack pipe and cap, and provide electrical power outlets for future radon mitigation fan installation as described herein.
b. Prior to occupancy, perform initial radon test using radon gas detectors in accordance with EPA 402-R-92-004 and Navy guidelines.
c. If initial radon test identify radon levels below 4.0 pCi/L, document readings in the test report and contact the Contracting Officer for futher direction. Should initial radon tests identify radon levels of
4.0 picocuries liter (pCi/L) or more, provide radon mitigation fan assembly (including fan, controller, disconnect switch, performance monitor) and activate. Once fans are provided and activated, perform a post-mitigation radon test to ensure that radon levels are less than
4.0 pCi/L. Should post-mitigation radon test identify radon levels above 4.0 pCi/L, contact the Contracting Officer for course of action and further direction.
