About this file
These are transmittal forms documenting equipment submittals for contract N6660420P8218, the B47 Dust Collection project at NUWC Newport for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The contractor, BESA Equipment LLC, submitted shop drawings and equipment specifications for government approval.
Transmittal #005 (dated 09/13/2020) covered ductwork shop drawings (Drawing 60089, Revision 2) for a 4000 CFM dust collection system with multiple inlet points (4", 5", 7", 8", 9", 10", and 12" diameter ductwork), floor sweeps, a concrete pad-mounted dust collector with external exhaust, and a control panel. The drawing notation states the design was "approved for sizes and ductwork path" with the understanding that "exact layout may vary based on field conditions." This submittal received approval code "B" on 09/14/2020, indicating approval except as noted on drawings with no resubmission required.
Transmittal #013 (dated 10/08/2020) was a resubmittal containing three items: the AGET dust collector unit (Model FT64S201-2HD4), the dust collector control panel drawing, and filtration specifications. The dust collector specifications detail an AGET FT64S201-2HD4-SP afterfilter attenuator with a 15 HP fan motor and 1/2 HP shaker motor, handling 4000 CFM at 14 inches of water gauge static pressure. The control panel uses a UL-listed steel enclosure with a Cincinnati Fan HDBI-160 backward-inclined wheel fan. Filter media consists of napped cotton sateen with 99.99% efficiency at 3-5 microns. This submittal received approval code "B" on 10/16/2020.

Efficiencies from test studies conducted with standard Aget fabric samples by an independent testing laboratory, Inter-Basic Resources (IBR), Accredited Laboratory Cert. No. 1362-01. Testing at 3:1 ratio, with PTI Fine Test Dust (neutralized), using the Aerosol Retention Efficiency Method per TM E-217, using HIAC/ROYCO 1230 Sensor and 8000A Automatic Particle Counter.

*Filtration efficiency is affected by many factors including particle size, shape, and weight, filter velocity (air-to-cloth ratio), dust loading, and the amount of residual dust, or "dust cake", remaining in or on the filter surface after reconditioning (i.e. bag shaking). A slight residual after reconditioning is desirable for optimum efficiency upon restarting the system. The above data was generated by an independent testing laboratory, and represents new fabric with a modest, stabilized surface residual, after reconditioning (shaking).
**One micron = One millionth of a meter; 0.0003937 Inch; Approx. 1/25,440 inch. The lower level of visibility to the naked eye is 40 microns.
Note: As with any "surface load" type filter media, filtration efficiency will improve as the collected dust cake builds, making longer intervals between filter shaking desirable, however an excessive dust cake will reduce fan capacity to some degree. Conversely, frequent reconditioning restores air volume, but adversely affects filtration efficiency as the dust cake is destroyed. Reconditioning is recommended only when air volume is reduced to a marginal or unacceptable level for its intended purpose. Experience will establish a desirable interval pattern, with one shake cycle per 8 hours being the normal starting point. When reconditioning no longer restores an acceptable air volume for an acceptable duration, the filters should be replaced.
