About this file

This request for information document pertains to a federal contract opportunity for the design, procurement, and installation of high density storage systems and equipment for Building 178 at a Naval Facilities Engineering Command site. The contractor questions whether existing slabs have been analyzed to support new forklifts weighing 20,000 to 30,000 pounds and if 3-inch inlay slabs will adequately support this weight at sawcut control joints. The government response indicates no specific analysis has been completed but the floors are intended for and routinely subjected to heavy industrial traffic. The contractor's designer must confirm floor strength is sufficient. The related federal contract opportunity involves solicitation N40085-20-B-2540 for high density storage stacker systems, including narrow aisle forklifts, chargers, guide wire systems, rack systems, fire suppression, alarm modifications, and electrical and concrete work. The agency is the Department of the Navy Naval Facilities Engineering Command.

CONTRACTOR QUESTION AND PROPOSED SOLUTION

RFI QUESTION/ISSUE:

1. Have existing slabs been analyzed by a structural engineer to determine adequate support for a new fork truck 20,000-30,000 pounds?

2. Is 3 ½” inlay slab adequate to support this weight especially at sawcut control joints? Our subcontractor has seen control joints fail which affect the functionality of the guide wire system.

3. Can the bid due date be extended ?

CONTRACTOR PROPOSED SOLUTION:

jon.reaves Typewritten Text No specific analysis has been completed by the Government for this project to verify floor strength, however these floors are intended for and are routinely subjected to industrial traffic which applies heavy loads as shown on the included drawing 178-13-362. The contractor's designer is to confirm (as needed) that the building and its floors have the required strength to support the contractor's specific design loads.
