1.0 ABSTRACT:
1.1 This Work Item describes replacing the existing Exterior Hull Vents with Non-Metallic construction approved by ABS and the US Coast Guard and conforming to MSC Guidelines on HVAC Construction and Weather Louvers. Although primarily addressing Non-Metallic construction replacement, this Work Item additionally approves Hull Vent replacement with Stainless Steel (SS316).

3.0 ITEM LOCATION/DESCRIPTION:
3.1 Location/Quantity
3.1.1 Location: Frames 44 – 69 Portside and Starboard along Main Deck. Externally accessible along Hull, internally accessible in Main Deck Cargo Hold Space.

5.0 NOTES:
5.1 The contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier, must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier must comply with the requirements of all applicable GTRs.
5.2 The contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier are advised to review the other work items under this contract to determine their effect on the work required under this work item.
5.3 THIS SHIP CONTAINS HIGH VOLTAGE (HV) ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. OBEY ALL POSTED AND VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING SAFETY AND EXCLUSION FROM HIGH VOLTAGE AREAS. AT NO TIME APPROACH, WORK ON, OR ENTER A HIGH VOLTAGE AREA WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION.
5.4 THE T-AKE CLASS ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK, AND WHITE. ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE ENERGIZED UNTIL TESTED AND PROVEN OTHERWISE. TEST ALL ELECTICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DE-ENERGIZED PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.
6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS:
6.1 Materials and ABS approved applications requiring Level 2 (L2) fire integrity are required by the USCG PFM 2-98. This vendor is only known manufacturer to meet these requirements:

Note: Stainless Steel (SS316) is allowed as a metallic option for Hull Vent Material Replacement. SS316 Replacement can be performed with Section 2.1 Reference Drawings as guidance or using steel fabrication common to shipyard practices.
7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED:
7.1 Preparation:
7.1.1 Tag-Out all required systems and equipment. Drain and dispose of any liquid in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
7.2 Removals
7.2.1 Remove existing Exterior Hull Vents to include weather louvers and coaming from bulkhead structure in the fan rooms portside and starboard along Main Deck using as reference MSC DWG 512- 8496620 Rev –, Exterior Hull Vent Material Replacement Design and Installation. Removals can be performed along exterior of Hull or internal to ship from within the Main Deck’s Cargo Hold Space.
7.3 Installations:
7.3.1 Clean all bulkhead openings of debris generated by this work item to include metal shavings, rusted spots, and remove the existing steel lugs. Wipe down applicable surfaces prior to installation and sealing of Hull Vents.
7.3.2 Fabricate and install four (4 ea) steel support plates, one on each side of bulkhead opening. Ensure final bulkhead openings match the widths, heights, and radial dimensions of various Hull Vent louvers. Refer to Table 2 of MSC DWG 512-8496620 Rev -, Exterior Hull Vent Material Replacement Design and Installation.
7.3.3 Apply suitable Marine caulking (flexible caulking) to seal contact between bulkhead structure and the Hull Vent’s FRP material.
7.4 Preparation of Drawings: Peerless Manufacturing will supply Hull Vent drawings generated at their factory site during the manufacturing of FRP material Hull Vents
7.5 Inspection/Test:
7.5.1 Fit up (ABS and MSCREP to attend)
7.5.2 Final installation prior to paint (ABS and MSCREP to attend)
7.6 Paint/Lagging:
7.6.1 Renew lagging where old lagging was removed. Paint all new and disturbed surfaces to match surrounding surfaces.
