5.0 NOTES
5.1 The contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier must comply with the requirements of all applicable GTRs including but not limited to GTRs 1 through 7, 22, 23, 28, and 29.
5.2 The contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier are advised to review other work items under this contract, including but not limited to Work Items 020, 021, 023, 024, and all 0400 series items to determine their effect on the work required under this work item. Many of the definitions relating to performance of this work item are found in Work Item 001.
5.3 THIS SHIP CONTAINS HIGH VOLTAGE (HV) ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. OBEY ALL POSTED AND VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING SAFETY AND EXCLUSION FROM HIGH VOLTAGE AREAS. AT NO TIME APPROACH, WORK ON, OR ENTER A HIGH VOLTAGE AREA WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORIZATION.
5.4 THE T-AKE CLASS ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK, AND WHITE. ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE ENERGIZED UNTIL TESTED AND PROVEN OTHERWISE. TEST ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DE-ENERGIZED PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.
5.5 The radar antenna emits electromagnetic radio frequency (RF) energy which can be harmful, particularly to your eyes. All personnel are to be trained on the risks and safety procedures.
6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS: None additional
7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED
7.1 Provide and operate equipment and supply all services and assistance to accomplish the inspection and servicing of the radars using References 2.1.1 through 2.1.3 as guidance.
7.2 Coordinate with the Chief Engineer for the isolation and lock-out/tag-out of any equipment or systems. Prevent the potential risk of being struck by the rotating antenna while men are aloft. Turn off the radar power switch before servicing the antenna unit. Post a warning sign near the switch indicating men are aloft and it should not be turned on while the antenna is being serviced.
7.3 All work shall only be accomplished by experienced and qualified personnel. They are also to be trained in radar and electrical safety to avoid personnel injury. As such the worker must be fully aware of the risks associated with his surroundings and be fully knowledgeable of health and safety standards.
7.4 Temporarily remove access panels for cleaning and inspection. Retain and mark all fasteners for reinstallation.
7.5 Record the running hours of the Antenna motors, Monitor displays and Magnetrons.
7.6 Record the version of software loaded on the systems.
7.7 Visually inspect the physical condition of the antennas, processors, monitors, control stations, wave guides and wiring for any damage, corrosion, contamination, deterioration or signs of overheating.
7.0 Temporarily open antenna covers to check terminal strips and plug connections inside. Check for loose connections and contacts and plugs for proper seating. Inspect the rubber gaskets on these covers for deterioration.
7.0 Inspect the Antenna drive mechanism.
7.0 Check processors, monitors, and control stations for loose connections and contacts and plugs for proper seating. Verify all grounds straps and cable shielding are secure and in good condition.
7.0 Check all foundations, bracing, fittings, wireways, bolts and clamps for condition and tightness.
7.0 Check all stuffing tubes and cable transits verifying all penetrations are watertight.
7.0 Clean the Antenna Radiators of all dirt, salt and debris using a soft cloth, fresh water and mild soap detergent. Inspect for cracks on the radiator surface.
7.0 Thoroughly clean the processors, monitors and control stations with vacuum, brush and lint free rags. Use a soft cloth to clean the monitor screens. If available, use an anti-static spray. Water, isopropyl, alcohol and similar nonabrasive cleaning fluids may also be used to clean the screen. Do not use solvents or chemical-based cleaners. Check for loose connections and contacts and plugs for proper seating. Verify all grounds straps and cable shielding are secure and in good condition.
