ABSTRACT
This item describes the upgrade of the SRD-500 Doppler speed log with the Furuno DS-60 triple axis speed log.

3.2 Item Description/Manufacturer’s Data
3.2.1 Bill of Material Contractor furnished:
3.2.1.1 Power and data cables required to complete installation. Cables shall be low smoke and approved for marine installations.
3.2.1.2 Provide material required to interface the main display unit with the remote displays and dimmer circuits.
3.2.1.3 Provide enclosures (approx 3”x4”) for mounding of dimmer circuit assemblies.
3.2.2 The contractor shall provide the exact quantities and additional material such as cable, fittings, hull plate, cable hangers, Junction box’s, weld material, cable tags, circuit breakers,swage tubes, etc., which are not included in the List of Materials, in order to install a fully functioning interfaced system which meets the requirements of this specification.

NOTES:
5.1 The contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier must consult the General Technical Requirements (GTR) to determine applicability to this work item. In performance of this work item, the contractor and all subcontractors regardless of tier must comply with the requirements of all applicable GTR’s including but not limited to GTR’s 1 through 7, 22, 24, 25,28 and 29.
5.2 The contractor and all subcontractors, regardless of tier are advised to review other work items under this contract, including but not limited to work Items 010, and 015, to determine their effect on the work required under this work item. Many of the definitions relating to performance of this work item are found in work item 001.
6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
6.1 The contractor will provide the services of a Furuno authorized technical representative on-site for the installation, checkout, and at-sea calibration of the new Doppler Speed Log System.
6.2 All work preformed shall be to the satisfaction
of the Port Engineer, Chief Engineer, ABS, MSC REP.
7.0
STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED
7.1
Arrangements/Outfitting:
7.1.1 Provide the services of a certified marine chemist to certify the areas of concern gas free to perform the hot work required in this spec item.
7.1.2 Provide the welding and fire watch services required to perform the hot work to complete installation and removals.
7.1.3 Provide crating, protective bubble wrap, and shipping services IAW MIL-STD-2073-1D STANDARD PRACTICE FOR MILITARY PACKAGING to ship all removed equipment to:

7.1.4 Provide all crane and rigging services for the installation and removals in this work item.
7.1.5 Provide certificates of inspection and approvals by USCG/ABS upon completion of this work item.
7.2
Structural:
7.2.1
Removals
a. Remove the old SRD-500 Speed Log Transducer, Spool piece and gate valve assembly from
Transducer Trunk. Remove all scale, rust, and corrosion from entire inside of trunk including underside of trunk cover.
b.
Remove the associated bolting ring, spool piece and shell plating from the external shell as necessary to facilitate installation of shell insert hull plate, using reference 2.4 as guidance. Grind all remaining material so it is smooth and flush with the hull.
c. Remove all old mounts, foundation, and brackets not utilized with installation of new equipment. Blank off all openings including unused transits, MCT, stuffing tubes, left by equipment removals in consoles.
7.2.2 Installation
a.
Provide and install a new hull plate insert approved by ABS to seal the vacated transducer hole. Grind hull insert weld bead so it is smooth and flush with the hull.
The new plate shall be of equivalent steel type and weight. Ensure all welds are ABS certified. Install new Furuno transducer, gate valve and new contactor provided swage tube for transducer cable into trunk locations to be determined by MSC REP and Furuno Manufacture REP.
b.Install all mounting plates, studs, and brackets to complete installation of DS-60. Provide and install sheet metal to provide a finished look to equipment openings in consoles.

7.5 Electronics:
7.5.1 Removal
a. Tag out of service the SRD-500 System using shipyard and MSC tag out procedures. Remove the existing SRD-500 Speed Log system which includes the major components and associated cabling listed in Table 1 and shown in reference 2.1.
b. Remove the SRD-600 Speed Log system in its entirety. Items in Table 1 shall be rigged from the ship. Contractor will crate and ship items as noted in paragraph 7.1.3.

c.
Remove the existing Raytheon DSN 450, Doppler Speed Log Main Electronics Unit (MEU), and Synchro Interface Unit Item No. 1 and 3.
d.
Remove the existing DSN 450 Main Display Unit, Item No. 2 from the Pilot House centerline forward bulkhead. Retain Isolation transformer and power cable for new SRD-500 Master Display to be installed at this location.
e.
Remove the existing DSN 450 Speed Log Display, Item No. 4 from ship control console.
f.
Remove the existing DSN 450 Doppler Speed Log Transducer, Housing, and Gate Valve Assembly, Item No. 5 and 6, from the DBL Bottom FR 34 ½.
g.
Remove the existing Transducer Electronics Unit (TEU) Item No. 7 from Passage 3-34-0-L. Remove the cable between the TEU and the MEU. False bulkheads and overheads shall be removed to facilitate the removal of old and installation of new cables.
7.5.2 Installations
a. Install the DS-60 DSL in accordance with the MFR. Technical manual reference 2.2.
b. Mount the Master Display unit in the Wheelhouse in the spot vacated by the removals. Modify the exiting plate mount as required to accept the new DSL display. Mount the Electronic Unit in passage 3-34-0-L in location that SRD-500 Transducer Electronics Unit was removed. Mount the Transducer, housing and gate valve in the location prepared in the hull. The contractor shall use Stainless CRES 316 hardware to mount the transducer and sea chest assembly. Install the remote digital repeaters displays at Port and STBD bridge wings with each dimmer control using reference 2.1 as guidance. Apply a conductive anti-seize to all bolt threads. The exact bulkhead mounting locations for installed equipment and remotes to be determined by the MSC REP at the time of installation.
c. Install Doppler system wiring and connections. Install shielded cable between the DSL, the two RADARS, ECDIS and Gyro for routing NMEA 0183 serial speed information. Connect Speed log to IC switch board providing services to user equipments.
d. The MFR REP shall test operate the DSL system and perform all system alignments and calibrations. Perform an underway measured mile calibration with the DSL system and realign as required.
e. Seal the cover on the cofferdam upon satisfactory inspection by the MSC REP and notification in writing by the MFR REP that the Transducer is properly aligned, sealed, and operating corredtly.
7.6 Preparation of Drawings
7.6.1 Prepare working drawings to accomplish all work under this item. They shall include as a minimum the following: Speed Log Interconnection Wiring Diagram.
7.6.2 Prepare red-line markup of reference 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 that shows all required information as per ABS Rules (2002).
7.6.3 Prepare red-line markup of Docking Plan.
7.6.4 Prepare (2) paper copies of as-built Elementary wiring and arrangement drawings to the MSC REP for a review and approval cycle. Drawings shall be complete with MSC TITLE BLOCK and New drawing numbers. Upon completion of review and the correction of all discrepancies, resubmit (3) paper and (1) electronic copy on CD prepared in AUTOCAD 2002 to the MSFSC REP.
7.7
Inspection/Test:
7.7.1 Inspect, test, and calibrate the speed log system including the repeaters, speed data interfaces with RADAR, ECDIS and Autopilot according to the manufacturer’s technical manual.
7.7.2 Functional test

7.8 Painting:
7.8.1 Prepare, and prime all new, modified, or disturbed areas resulting from this spec item. After allowing sufficient time to dry apply a topcoat of paint to affected & primed areas to match the adjacent surroundings.
7.8.2 When old gate valve is removed and prior to installation of new gate valve clean, sand, remove any scale or rust from transducer tank double bottom FR 34.5 CL and tank cover. Apply primer and paint to refurbish tank. Painting shall be in accordance with GTR 7.
7.9 Marking:
7.9.1 Install new aluminum embossed tags on all newly installed cables resulting from this work item for every 50 ft. of cable and on each side of a deck or bulkhead that the cable penetrates. The contactor may use the existing cable numbering system utilized by the old Speed Log system.
7.9.2 Install new plastic label plates on the power panel adjacent to breakers, and Junction/distribution boxes used for this work item to indicate the equipment model it supplies power to. Labels shall be of equivalent size, color, and material as those currently used.
7.10
Manufacturer's Representative:
7.10.1 The contractor shall provide the services of a manufacture’s representative (MFR REP) to provide on-site installation, inspection, test, commissioning, and calibrate the Speed Log System during vessel’s sea trials.
