About this file

This document contains answers to questions regarding a federal solicitation for RF and circuit design assembly and fabrication support. The solicitation seeks labeling and wiring specifications for cable assemblies, with answers clarifying that legible labeling at connectors and every meter is acceptable, font size is unspecified but must be legible, and wire lengths should be measured from the front of connectors. Dimensions for additional labels are not provided but they should be placed close to connectors without interfering. The related solicitation is for the Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command and concerns RF and circuit design assembly and fabrication support services.

Text version

1. Question: Laser markings of the twisted pairs/ twisted triple wires doesn’t seem to be feasible.

Would labeling with the two/ three designators per label (respectively) be permissible?

Answer: Yes. Labeling should be, at a minimum, at each connector and at the middle of the cable. If cable is longer than 1 meter, cable should be labeled at every meter.

2. Question: What is the required font type and size for the laser/ labeling?

Answer: Font type/size is not specified, but the font should be legible on the label.

3. Question: Where does the wire length dimension begin? Is it from the front or back of the connector?

Answer: Wire length should begin from the front of the connector. Cable length measures end to end cable length from connector to connector. Wire length measures just the wire, so wire length would be from the end of connector to end of connector.

4. Question: For cable 21916101‐006‐ FN 50, labels A and B are shown in the drawing, but lack dimensional references. If we are to install them, we will need the distance from the FN 26/ 27 backshell/ connector. Are you able to provide this, please?

Answer: There are no specific dimensions. The label should be placed as close to the connector as feasible but should not interfere with the connector or strain relief.
