1.0 GENERAL
1. Desirable features are provided herein for potential incorporation in the Contractor’s ship design. These desirable features support the ship’s ability to perform its scientific mission or reduce life cycle cost. These capabilities are highly desirable, but are not mandatory. The desirable requirements, listed in priority order from highest priority to lowest priority, are:
a) Enhanced Automation for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems
b) Increased Blackwater and Graywater Holding Capacity
c) Improved Propulsor Cavitation Performance
d) 40 Year Service Life
2.0 DESIRABLE FEATURES
a) 512a Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), General - Enhanced
Automation for HVAC Systems
The HVAC system shall be a “smart” system that shall have centralized computer control capable of remote monitoring and automatic and manual control, including opening, closing and modulating of dampers/ventilators, and control of air flow rate, temperature, and humidity of each air conditioned space. The centralized computer control station shall be located in the Main Control Station (MCS).
The HVAC system shall have independent temperature and humidity controls for each air conditioned space, but shall be capable of being overridden by the centralized computer control system.
b) 593a Sewage Systems - Increased Blackwater and Graywater Holding Capacity
The blackwater and graywater system shall collect and hold all blackwater and graywater generated within a total period of 240 hours, with no overboard discharge of blackwater or graywater during this period. Tanks shall be dedicated to store blackwater or graywater.
Piping and valves shall be arranged to prevent mixing of blackwater and graywater. The system shall include the permanent capability to isolate and transfer contents between tanks of the same service and to shore connections.
c) 245 Propulsors - Improved Propulsor Cavitation Performance
Propulsors shall be free of cavitation in the free route condition up to 12 knots at full load displacement.
d) 070c General Characteristics - 40 Year Service Life
The ship shall be designed and built for a minimum service life of 40 years. The ship shall have ABS notation SFA(40).
