About this file
This is a specifications document for a construction project to renovate Patient Ward 3B at the Marion VA Medical Center in Marion, Illinois, under VA Contract #36C25523R0096. The project involves renovating the ward to improve patient privacy and create an intensive care unit, with a base bid construction duration of 550 calendar days.
The specifications detail requirements across multiple divisions including demolition, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other building systems. The scope includes asbestos abatement, new headwalls, patient lifts, mechanical ductwork, solid surface wall finishes, and premanufactured metal casework. There are eight deductive bid alternates that progressively reduce scope and duration, ranging from omitting mechanical ductwork (530 days) to eliminating renovation of the visitor lounge (410 days). Key requirements include maintaining hospital operations during construction, coordination of utility interruptions, infection control measures, and protection of existing facilities. The contractor must provide construction schedules, safety plans, warranties, and training for VA staff on new equipment and systems.
