ITEM QTY ITEM TOTAL QTY NOTE:

A 1 1. The sight distance of the installation will need to be verified with respect to the specific site placement. The exact position of the

B 1 system shall be shown elsewhere in the plans or as directed by the CO.

C 1 2. Steel posts are not permitted at CRT or BCT post positions.

D 1

- - - - 3. Rail elements shall meet the requirements of Sections 617 and 710 E 1 except as modified on the plans. The contractor may furnish rail F 2 elements of 12.5-foot or 25-foot nominal lengths.

G 1 4. Button head 'Post bolts & nuts' shall be of sufficient length to extend - - - -

H 2 through the full thickness of the nut and ¾-inch washer (FWC16a)

I 2 I 3 and not more than 1 inch beyond it. Trim remaining bolt length to meet required length.

J 1

- -- - - - - - 5. Template shall be widened as necessary to accomodate the short

K 1 K 1 radius guardrail system.

M 4 6. The lateral approach to the guardrail, shall have a slope rate not steeper than 1V:lOH.

7. Do not place curb along this system.

8. Guardrail posts shall not be set in concrete, of any depth.

9. Special fabrication will be required for thrie beam rail radius (Item 1).

10. All material and work involved is subsidiary to short radius bid item, including, but not limited to foundations, thrie beam rail, sand barrels, and other parts.

11. All cable assemblies should be taut after installation. When cables are manipulated by hand the cables should not move more than 1-inch in any direction perpendicular to the cable.

12. The BCT bearing plate installed at post 4 should be oriented such that the 3-inch dimension from plate edge to center of bolt hole is on the bottom and 5-inch dimension from plate edge to center of bolt hole is on the top.

13. See Section 601 for post l foundation concrete composition.

14. Tested to MASH with a 3:1 slope or shallower is preferable in the limits of the top and bottom of the slope as shown in the plan view. If field conditions require a steeper slope, this may be allowable up to a 2:1 slope.

15. Sand barrels are Trinity Energite III, Model 640 filled with 715 pounds (+/-) sand or an approved equivalent. The approximate height of the barrel is 41".

16. Component descriptions refer to Task Force 13 Guide to Standardized Roadside Safety Hardware.Al2 24 Al2 28

Al3 18 Al3 18 SPECIAL APPLICATION NOTES:

Al4 2 Al4 10 Available for use on any speed roadway. The system requires a minimum

Al5 8 placement footprint of 34'-10" along the primary road and a 35'-0" along

Al6 4 secondary road.

Al7 12 Al7 12 It is critical that the primary guardrail maintain a (4 degree) with the

AlB 5 AlB 5 primary roadway.

Al9 10 Al9 10 The system requires a minimum 5' wide (clear area) directly behind the

A20 5 A20 5 guardrail system with a slope at 1V:10H or flatter, from there a maximum 3:1 slope is recommended. See Sheet 1 of 4 for flare and slope details.
