CORE POSITION DESCRIPTION
NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: LABORER

Major Duties: Performs one or more of the following duties: Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes or cartons by hand, hand-truck, or dolly. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears.
Stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Using a shovel, digs ditches where grading and sloping is not required. Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake. Runs hand and powered (walking type) lawnmowers, which do not require very heavy physical effort. Clears small trees and bushes using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper.
Moves and arranges furniture as directed. May shovel snow sand or dirt from sidewalks.
Collects and empties garbage cans, burns garbage and trash. Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or using powered buffer.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as required.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge and skill sufficient to run lawnmowers and use hand buffers, hatchets, saws, hand and other tools requiring the same level of knowledge and skill.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to work safely while moving light to heavy weight objects.
Responsibility: Works with specific oral and written instructions. Worker is called upon to use continual care, due to the nature of tools and equipment used, and the weight of objects handled.
After receipt of instructions, worker may complete duties involving several distinct tasks or steps independently (e.g., washing and waxing a car; unloading supplies, moving them to specified locations and stacking them).
Physical Effort: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects; frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects; and frequently pushing heavy furniture, loaded carts, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in bad weather, involving exposure to extreme temperatures. Indoor working conditions may expose the worker to drafts, noise, dust and dirt and require standing on concrete floors for long periods. The tools, equipment, and heavy objects involved occasionally present chances of serious injury.

MAJOR DUTIES: Maintains, repairs and operates a variety of golf course machinery used for the grounds maintenance: including but not limited to tractor operated driven gang mowers, tractor driven leaf blowers, leaf sweeper, fertilizers, spreaders, riding mowers, greens mowers, front line mowers, sand trap rakes, vertical machines and aerators. Perform maintenance and repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting and / or cleaning standard defective parts and components, heating and cooling devices, etc. May use a variety of test equipment to troubleshoot/help diagnose problems. Repairs and maintain irrigation systems.
Observe environmental, safety, and security rules and regulations. .
Adhere to safety regulations and standards including Hazmat disposal. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor.
Adhere to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge in the applicable combination of trades sufficient to perform the duties of the position. Have the ability to communicate effectively. Be knowledgeable of pertinent safety, occupational health, and environmental regulations, to include matters relating to chemicals, spray, and other agents.
Must have a valid state driver’s license.
RESPONSIBILITY: Works under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledge.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work involves prolonged standing, bending, stooping, physical exertion, kneeling and other uncomfortable and tiring positions. Frequently is required to work on parts of equipment that are located in hard to reach places. Regularly lifts, moves, and carries light to heavy weight objects. Handle a variety of tools, materials and equipment. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside, and incumbent is exposed to dirt, paint vapors, fumes, wind and sun. Outdoor work is performed in all kinds of weather. Must wear issued protective gear.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The incumbent is involved in one or more recreational activities such as military or community center activities; youth activities; outdoor recreation; craft and hobby shops; athletics, fitness and sports programs; music and theater and/or other similar MCCS recreational services.
Provides oversight of activities and necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information on the use of equipment. Provides information concerning facilities and operation.
Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures. Monitors and checks the security of premises.
May assist in maintaining routine reports and/or perform clerical, custodial and/or general maintenance duties as needed. May operate a cash register, receive payments and make change.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months experience in the assigned recreational activity is desired. Skill to learn MCCS policies, rules and regulations involving the area, and ability to communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of basic mathematics. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance.
