CORE POSITION DESCRIPTION

Major Duties: Performs seasonal gardening tasks such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, trimming, and applying chemicals to plants according to seasonal schedules or project plans for assigned area and in consonance with environmental instructions. Considers suitability of weather, degree of moisture in soil, and stage of plant growth in deciding when and how to do work. Figures quantities of plants, seeds, fertilizer, and other materials needed for specific areas. May start nursery and coldframe beds independently and select proper fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides for the control of common plant diseases, plant insects, and weeds. May operate a variety of vehicles.
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of gardening procedures to decide when and which standard method to use.
Knowledge of: when and how plants should be watered, when to thin or transplant plants and how to prune plants or trees to remove diseased parts and seal wounds with coating mixtures; knowledge of harvesting seeds and removing bulbs from ground for storage; knowledge of and ability to build a good soil base and place seeds at proper depth, in consideration of moisture, temperature, humidity, and ventilation requirements needed to encourage germination and growth of new plants. Ability to compute required quantities of plants, seeds and other garden materials needed for specific areas; and select and use fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides for control of common plant diseases, plant insects, and weeds. A driver's license is required when operating vehicles.
Responsibility: Supervisor assigns area, provides general instructions as to what project needs to be accomplished, and furnishes the seasonal planting and maintenance schedule for the area. Incumbent plans and carries out work according to the schedule or project assignment, within the framework of established gardening practices. Follows manufacturer’s instructions on product labels regarding depth and spacing of seeds, application of chemicals and fertilizers, etc., and uses gardening procedures which are routinely performed in the local area. Supervisor is available to provide advice on new or unfamiliar gardening methods or problems.
Physical Effort: Work requires frequent walking, standing, pushing of carts and wheelbarrows, bending and stooping. Occasionally climbs ladders to prune or trim vegetation and frequently lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer, grass seed, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work is done outside and incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in hot sun and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather. Exposed to dirt, dust, mud and sometimes to chemical sprays and dusts.
May be required to wear protective clothing.

Major Duties: Independently considers individual needs or characteristics of plants in work such as adjusting mineral content of soil; sloping and planting of terraces; transplanting a wide variety of grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees; and pruning trees to obtain a proper balance between roots and top growth. Works from project plans, master landscape, and long-range plans, making independent judgments within the framework of good gardening practices.

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of how to propagate and cultivate a wide variety of plants and perform a wide range of gardening work such as how to increase or decrease the lime, calcium salt, or sulphur content so that acid or alkaline conditions are neutralized in line with plant requirements; use various foliage feeding, root feeding, and soil additive techniques in fertilizing different varieties of plants. Ability to slope and plant terraces and sod steep banks or heavy traffic patterns that involve difficult holding and growth problems; to recommend plants for particular purposes, or pleasing appearance; to transplant successfully by selecting location for best plant growth and development, considering soil conditions, hardiness of plants, foliage at various stages of growth, flowering periods, and the overall landscape plan. Ability to shape and slope earth to provide proper drainage and sufficient air for roots, to reshape trees and plants to modify or retain natural form; and to increase fruit and flower production, and to reshape tree wounds by bark tracing to stimulate flow of healing sap and growth of tissue over wound. Ability to recognize and control plant diseases, cold damage, and mineral deficiencies. Observes established safety, sanitation and hazardous waste disposal rules and requirements.
Responsibility: Performs work independently, consulting gardening books or catalogues regarding physical characteristics of plants and individual plant requirements for sun, water, minerals, and soil mixture. Within framework of accepted good gardening practices, makes independent judgments in treating soil and in deciding which plants will be moved, where they will be transplanted, and how problem conditions will be treated.
Recommends changes for improvement in overall landscape plan and obtains approval on projects which require unplanned expense or significant periods of time.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Assists and serves customers with location, selection and purchase of merchandise with an emphasis on customer courtesy. Responsible for merchandising, display, and appearance of assigned area(s). Ensures items are properly marked. Checks merchandise, rings sales on cash register, receives payments, makes change, bags or wraps merchandise and completes related sales records. Prepares written sales slips as appropriate. Verifies personal checks and credit cards. Responsible for assigned change fund. Assists in inventories, ensures proper accountability and security of assigned area(s). Advises supervisor of damages, out-of-stock and/or slow-moving merchandise.
May monitor dressing rooms. May accept merchandise sales for layaway and Deferred Payment Plan. May perform general housekeeping duties such as cleaning or dusting fixtures and merchandise. May sort and replenish merchandise. Relays information on customer needs and stock level of merchandise. May maintain preferred customer list and notify customers of new merchandise.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a golf course, which includes nine holes, fairways and greens. Responsible to provide technical advice and equipment. Schedules and conducts tournaments and special events. May instruct member golfers, operate a pro shop and golf cart rental. May manage an eating facility.
Plans, organizes work and manages internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies. Prepares financial plan, budgets, inventories, cost controls, and related records and reports. Reviews the financial status of the assigned activity and recommends changes considered necessary. Either directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors, manages activity employees. Trains, schedules work, appraises performance, counsels assigned personnel, and recommends personnel actions. Effectively supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity policy, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, security, sanitation, hazardous material handling and other environmental issues. Manages new property resources and provides advice on renovations and improvements. Maintains and enforces security for funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of a golf course encompassing at least 18-holes, fairways, greens and practice course or driving range. Responsible to provide qualified instruction, technical advice, equipment and retail items. Ensures an aggressive recreational golf program is available for authorized patrons. Schedules and conducts tournaments and special events. Instructs member golfers, operates a pro shop and golf cart rental. May manage an eating facility, and oversee environmental management of golf course greens.
Plan, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies. Prepares internal office financial plans and related records and reports, and exercises authority on approved budget. Monitors programs on a regular basis, and initiates corrective action to ensure support of operating programs of MCCS. Manages new property resources and may provide direction on facility renovations and improvements.
Develops long range plans in conjunction with internal operating directives, and exercises internal personnel management authorities as delegated by the higher-level supervisor with regard to subordinate supervisors and employees in the office. Directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors supervises employees. Counsels and trains employees, schedules and directs work, appraises work performance. Approves or disapproves leave, and personnel actions. Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action. Major Duties: Performs one or more of the following duties: Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes or cartons by hand, hand-truck, or dolly. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears.
Stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Using a shovel, digs ditches where grading and sloping is not required. Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake. Runs hand and powered (walking type) lawnmowers, which do not require very heavy physical effort. Clears small trees and bushes using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper.
Moves and arranges furniture as directed. May shovel snow sand or dirt from sidewalks.
Collects and empties garbage cans, burns garbage and trash. Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or using powered buffer.

Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to work safely while moving light to heavy weight objects.
Responsibility: Works with specific oral and written instructions. Worker is called upon to use continual care, due to the nature of tools and equipment used, and the weight of objects handled.
After receipt of instructions, worker may complete duties involving several distinct tasks or steps independently (e.g., washing and waxing a car; unloading supplies, moving them to specified locations and stacking them).
Physical Effort: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects; frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects; and frequently pushing heavy furniture, loaded carts, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.
Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in bad weather, involving exposure to extreme temperatures. Indoor working conditions may expose the worker to drafts, noise, dust and dirt and require standing on concrete floors for long periods. The tools, equipment, and heavy objects involved occasionally present chances of serious injury.
