PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 GEOTEXTILE PLACEMENT:
A. Subgrade Preparation:
1. Surfaces to receive Geotextile shall be smooth and compact, free of litter, sharp protrusions (exceeding 1 inch from the ground surface), and large stones.
B. Installation:
1. The Geotextile shall be placed on the prepared subgrade at the locations and to the dimensions shown on the Drawings and as specified in this Section. The Installer shall provide and maintain the necessary means for controlling water.
2. The Installer shall roll the Geotextile out as smoothly as possible and not drag the Geotextile across the subgrade. The Geotextile shall be placed loosely but without wrinkles and creases which shall be removed by stretching manually as required.
3. The Geotextile installation should be conducted using procedures which prevent damage to underlying materials.
4. The Geotextile shall be weighted with sandbags (or an Engineer approved equivalent) during deployment in a manner which prevents wind damage. The weights shall remain in place until the Geotextile is covered.
5. The Geotextile shall be protected at all times during construction against contamination with mud or dirt, damage and ultraviolet light (sunlight). The Geotextile shall not be exposed to sunlight for more than two (2) days prior to placement of cover material. Geotextile material contaminated with runoff or sediment shall be completely removed and replaced with new, clean material at the expense of the Installer.

GEOSYNTHETICS
100% Design – Issue for Bid 31 05 19-5 October November 319, 2016 \\uspsw2pfpsw001\data\Data_USPSW2VFP001\Environment\Piscataway\Project\GSA\60436364 Belle Mead Design\500 Deliverables\503 North Parcel Issue for Bid Design\Specifications\31 - Earthwork\31 05 19 Geosynthetics for Earthworks.docx
6. Should the installation items as described in this Section contradict those of the Manufacturer as specified in the submittal, the Installer shall seek clarification from the Engineer.
C. Seaming Procedure:
1. Seaming shall be placed with a minimum of a six (126) inch overlap.
2. Unseamed joints to be approved by CM must have a minimum overlap of 18-inches.
2.3. When overlapping Geotextile, the upstream sheet shall be placed over the downstream sheet.
D. Cover Aggregate Placement:
1. The cover materials shall be placed carefully to avoid damage and/or displacement of the geosynthetic materials. The material shall not be dumped onto the surface of the geosynthetics, but rather carefully placed and spread using low impact, wide-track dozers.
2. Contractor shall fill beginning with the sheets overlapped above subsequent sheets to avoid displacement of material.
3. Tire-mounted trucks and end-dumped material shall be kept off geosynthetics until twelve (12) inches of cover material has been placed.
C. Repairs:
1. If any defect is observed, such defect shall be repaired by replacing the damaged fabric or by placing a new layer of Geotextile extending a minimum of three (3) feet beyond the defect in all directions.
