About this file

This is a questions and answers document showing an exchange between industry and USAF regarding F117 engine data and performance metrics. The document contains two questions submitted about engine shortages and Mean Time Between Removal (MTBR) goals, along with the USAF's responses.

The document includes historical F117 engine data from 2017-2024 showing production numbers, flight hours, N1 cycles, and removals. The USAF response indicates they have established a build goal of 4,400 N1 cycles with an MTBR target of 5,500 Engine Flying Hours (EFH). The response clarifies that this MTBR goal takes into account mission requirements and supply chain constraints, and reaffirms the government's commitment to meeting the 5,500-hour MTBR target. The data tables show production increasing from 0 units in 2017 to 143 projected units in 2024, with varying levels of removals ranging from 87-146 units per year during this period.

Summarized Submitted Questions:

1.Can USAF please review the flight data in the table below, it appears there is an engine shortage for aircraft.

2. The USAF MTBR in hours goal was 5500 hours; currently, the fleet isn’t meeting that goal. Could the delta be due to the engine shortage in the flight data (refer to question 1).

USAF response to questions submitted on 01/24/2025:

1. Added SPS numbers missing from the previous correspondence.

2. The government has established a build goal of 4,400 N1 cycles, with an MTBR target of 5,500 Engine Flying Hours (EFH). This MTBR goal considers various factors, including mission requirements, supply chain constraints, and other relevant considerations. As previously communicated during industry days and through ongoing correspondence, the government is committed to meeting the 5,500-hour MTBR target to fulfill mission needs
