| 96 | TO 2 PWS | Attachment 2 Homestead AFB, Section 1.1, 1st bullet: Please confirm the referenced OWS is different than the former OWS removed in 1993-1994. If so, please provide location and background information on this OWS. The OWS was discovered at 25 29'53''N, 80 23'10''W during the excavation of Area 12 at OU-28 in 2019/2020. The OWS is approximately 42 inches wide, 92 inches long, and 60 inches deep. All liquids from the OWS were removed and were disposed of as hazardous waste in January 2019 (11, 55-Gallon Drums). The excavation performed at Area 12 included the removal of most soil adjacent the OWS without impacting the integrity of the structure; therefore, there is still some soil immediately surrounding the OWS that may be impacted with contaminants. Note that a figure has been uploaded to the Google Drive for reference since the draft report of excavation of soil at OU-28 is not yet available.
97 TO 2 PWS Please identify BECOS Central South sites that are known to be contaminated with PFOA/PFOS and require special waste handling, and identify maximum concentrations for comparison to AF's guidance document (e.g., At SD019 site at Myrtle Beach, what are the current PFOS/PFOA concentrations in groundwater sampling purge water needed to identify the required disposal facility). 13-May-20 TO 2 PWS Kelly - PFOS/PFOA sampling in not currently being conducted at IRP sites included in this TO. Purge water generated from groundwater sampling activities is treated at the Zone 2 GWTP. Groundwater from several treatment systems is directed to the Zone 2 GWTP. The post UV/OX, pre-GAC treatment concentrations are 0.551 ug/L PFOS and 0.127 ug/L PFOA. There are currently no TCEQ TPDES dicharge criteria for PFOS/PFOA. The disposal or regeneration of spent GAC must comply with AF guidance.
Reese - NA, there is no groundwater monitoring required for IRP sites included in the TO. Myrtle Beach - Wells in the vicinity of Site SD019 have PFOS+PFOA (summed) levels ranging from 0.239 to 1.705 ug/L for individual monitoring well samples. For England AFB, see Final Site Inspection Report for AFFF Areas at Former England AFB, AR 592556 (7 parts).
