About this file

This is a technical specification section for metal wall panels for the AFRL Renovate H8 Laboratory B3 project (Project #200308AE), dated 05/04/2026.

The specification requires factory-fabricated, prefinished metal panel systems with concealed fasteners, specifically MBCI FW-120 panels. Exterior wall panels must be 24-gauge precoated steel sheet with 0.0276-inch minimum thickness, 12-inch width, vertical profile, double-interlocked side seams with continuous gaskets, and aluminum-zinc alloy coating per ASTM A792/A792M. Panels must be finished with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) coating complying with AAMA 2605, with minimum 0.9 mil dry film thickness and color selected by the Owner from the manufacturer's standard line. The system must accommodate a maximum deflection of L/180 for panel span and provide positive drainage for internal moisture. Subgirt framing assembly uses 16-gauge, 0.0598-inch thick non-precoated steel sheet with fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) thermal Z-girts spaced 24 inches on center vertically. The wall assembly must comply with NFPA 285 fire propagation testing standards. Manufacturer and installer must have minimum three years of documented experience. A 15-year finish warranty is required against excessive degradation, fading, chalking, or flaking. Installation must follow manufacturer's instructions with concealed fasteners, proper substrate preparation, gasket placement, and protection of dissimilar metal contacts. Tolerances include 1/16-inch maximum offset between adjacent members and 1/4-inch maximum variation from plane.
