Leverage SUAS and the AOC environment to build synergy between Cadet Wing training activities, Dean of Faculty Education and Research. Promote the essence of Airman culture.
Create an open architecture AOC/Battle Lab environment that will attract research activities and financial support.
Safe and fully AFI-compliant SUAS ops at USAFA.
Western military success throughout history is founded upon the ability to combine advanced military technology with an aggressive military tradition.
USAFA UAS History 2009: Viking 300 (Bosh Global Services) June 2009, 25 cadets completed AM-200 Sept 2009, 24 cadets completed AM-201 2010: Scan Eagle (BGS/Insitu) 45 cadets completed IPUG 90 cadets completed AM-200 2011: Aerosonde Mk 4.7 (BGS/AAI) 31 cadets completed IPUG 182 cadets completed AM-200 31 IPUG students 2012: Aerosonde Mk 4.7 (BGS/AAI) 52 cadets enrolled in IPUG 250 cadets will have completed AM-200 by EOY 2013: RQ-11 Raven (BGS) 11 cadet initial cadre 250 cadets will have completed AM-200 by summer 2014 2014: Creation of MSS credited course / Raven maturity 2015 and beyond: Become USAFA Program of Record
RQ-11B Group 1 SUAS
RQ-11 Capabilities Endurance 60-90 minutes / AV battery 10 minute turn around time between sorties Crew swaps may occur during flight
Payload EO / IR sensor with 4 and 2 zoom settings respectively Gimbaled payload compatible
Range Up to 5 and 10 km with Omni-directional and patch antennae respectively Must stay within visual range (FAA Req)
Performance Operates up to 1,000 ft. AGL (10,000 MSL Max) 26 kts cruise speed, 43 kts dash speed
SUAS Courses Offered UAS-200 – Intro to UAS/AOC Ops (Spring, Summer) Basic UAS flight operations, concepts of Ops, basic TTPs Intro to AOC Operations Basic Airmanship
MSS-201 – SUAS-O Upgrade (3 Deg / 2 Deg Fall) C2 Concepts, dynamic TTPs, armed ISR in a joint environment Target: 30 Cadets
FORM 8 PROGRAMS:
MQ-11 IQT at Hurlburt ( 2 Deg Summer / 3 Deg Summer*) SUAS-O Rising 2-deg year IQT, SUAS-O INIT QUAL Form 8 upon return Select SUAS-O/I’s are upgraded to SUAS-I/E’s
FLIGHT TEST CERTIFICATION:
SUAS-I
SE 356– Flight Test Upgrade (2 Deg Spring / 3 Deg Spring*)
IAW AFI 11-5FT (OPR: AFMC)
Grads are certified to conduct certified flight test using diverse Group 1 and Group 2 SUAS
* Require USAFA/AFSOC approval SUAS-E
