CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 PURPOSE.
1.1.1 Define Requirements. To define calibration and measurement requirements for CV-22 Osprey and associated support equipment (SE).
1.1.2 Define Policies. To define policies involving calibration support of CV-22 Osprey.
1.1.3 Identify Calibration Authority. To identify calibration authority in terms of what and when SE requires calibration and the organization responsible for support.
1.1.4 Determining Workload. To assist in determining calibration workload imposed on operating organizations, depot, and supporting Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratories (PMELs).
1.2 SCOPE.
1.2.1 Level of Support. This technical order (T.O.) covers calibration and measurement requirements at all levels of support for CV-22 Osprey. This includes organizational (O), intermediate (I), technical repair centers (TRC), test sites, training sites, and depot (D) operational and training activities.
1.2.2 Two Chapters. This T.O. consists of two chapters.
1.2.2.1 Chapter 1, INTRODUCTION, contains the purpose, scope, related documents, support concept, definitions, an explanation of workload tables, and other pertinent information.
1.2.2.2 Chapter 2, CV-22 SUPPORT EQUIPMENT, identifies method of viewing CV-22 SE calibration requirements. SE used at all levels of CV-22 maintenance and calibration are identified.
1.3 RELATED DOCUMENTS.
1.3.1 This T.O. will be used with the following documents:

1.4 SUPPORT CONCEPT.
1.4.1 Calibration and Maintenance.
1.4.1.1 Calibration and maintenance of CV-22 SE will be accomplished at the lowest practical echelon possible based on concept of operation and equipment authorizations. The organization responsible for support is included in calibration requirements listings addressed in Chapter 2.
1.4.1.2 T.O. 00-20-14 holds the Methods and Procedures for the management of the Air Force Metrology and Calibration (AFMETCAL) Program. That program is established and directed by AFI 21-113. Calibration authority order of precedence is as follows:
1 - T.O. 1V-22(C)B-37 2 - T.O. 33K-1-100-2 3 - T.O. 33K-1-100-1 Sec 3 4 - Other official DoD calibration procedures 5 - Equipment maintenance T.O.
6 - Commercial publications or commercial data
The applicable calibration procedure and interval will be identified in the Cal TO and Cal Interval fields of the calibration requirements listing. When a calibration interval is not listed in the above documents and the item requires calibration, the interval shall not be greater than 12 months.
1.4.1.3 Requests concerning calibration responsibility determinations for CV-22 SE (Chapter 2) should be sent via AFTO Form 45 IAW T.O. 00-20-14, Section 5, annotated as "CV22" in the “Weapon Sys(s) or End Item Supported” block. Direct inquiries may be made via Defense Switched Network (DSN) 366-5062 to 562
CBSG/GBNA.
1.4.1.4 Certain calibration range and accuracy requirements of CV-22 SE will be dictated by system or subsystem needs in lieu of manufacturer's specifications. 33K series calibration procedures are prepared and maintained by 562 CBSG/GBHA. Any change or correction to these procedures will be via AFTO Form 22 action.
1.4.1.5 Calibration and maintenance location (on-station/off-station, on-site/off-site) is at the discretion of the Maintenance Supervisor responsible.
1.4.1.6 Field Training Detachment (FTD) equipment calibration requirements are identified in calibration requirements listings in this T.O. and T.O. 33K-1-100-2. See T.O. 00-20-14 for additional information concerning training equipment calibration requirements.
1.4.1.7 Torque indicating devices are considered TMDE and will be calibrated by the PMEL. Torque indicating devices not listed in this T.O. will be calibrated IAW T.O. 33K-1-100-1/-2.
1.4.1.8 See T.O. 00-20-14 for definition and guidance on calibration authority defined as Contract and Commercial calibration of TMDE.
1-3
1.4.2 Equipment.
1.4.2.1 Equipment required by the PMEL to support CV-22 Osprey is listed in Allowance Source Code (ASC) 734.
1.4.2.2 Core Standards of the ATE should be calibrated at prescribed intervals using the Portable Automatic Test Equipment Calibrator (PATEC) concept. The ATE core standards may be utilized, via self-test, to perform wrap-around calibration at the interface.
1.4.2.3 The user will furnish all special cables, adapters, hardware, and software needed to interface Core Standards to Portable Automatic Test Equipment Calibrator (PATEC).
1.4.2.4 Refer to N65 in AFCAV for a listing of PMELs supporting photometers with the PCS-300 Photometric Calibration System. Refer to N42 for Spectral Radiance Head or Light Source calibration capability.
1.4.3 Facilities.
1.4.3.1 PMEL facility requirements are identified in Section 8 of T.O. 00-20-14.
1.4.3.2 When operating a PMEL outside the environmental limits of T.O. 00-20-14, Section 8, consult equipment manufacturer's specifications for any necessary correction factors or environmental restrictions.
1.4.4 Quality Assurance. The PMEL quality assurance program must ensure laboratory production meets established safety and accuracy requirements with traceability to national standards. Quality assurance shall be in accordance with T.O. 00-20-14.
