About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file dated July 31, 2026, providing clarifications for a fire training structure construction project. The Contractor is responsible for providing design drawings, including the design of a gate and steps, and furnishing specified items detailed in Answers 4 and 17. The existing protective liner panel trim around first-floor doors measures 7" wide, with door framing appearing to be angle iron; all doors are 6'-8" high by 3' wide. The pyrometer specification requires a minimum 6-position unit with Fahrenheit readout, no separate plug-in readout, similar to the Fire Watchmen Pyrometer model, with temperature storage and recall capability.
Key project specifications include testing all four anchors with SOW Paragraph 16 revised accordingly, and the gate is defined as a 1-leaf swinging gate 40" long to be installed at the west end of the new platform. Data collection will occur via USB or Bluetooth with digital readout monitoring on the building's exterior. The engineer must have live fire training experience per NFPA 1402 requirements. The roof hatch replacement will be stainless steel, matching the existing hatch size with two hold-down clamps installed. ADA and ADAAG requirements are not applicable to this project. Alternative panel types are acceptable provided they receive design engineer approval. The engineer retains authority to determine fire-rating requirements for hollow metal doors and will approve all framing materials and methods, with no specific framing type mandated in the specifications.

Question Answer
1a & 1b The Contractor will provide the design drawings. This includes the design of the gate and steps.
1c All of these items will be furnished by the Contractor. Answers 4 and 17 below specify more details for these items.
2a The existing protective liner panel trim around the first floor doors is 7" wide.
2b The existing door framing appears to be angle iron.
2c All the doors are 6'-8" high x 3' wide.
2d To Be Determined (TBD) by the design engineer.
2e No. Normal sliding bolt locks will suffice.
2f, g, h, i TBD by the design engineer.
3 No
4 The pyrometer shall read out in Fahrenheit. It shall be a minimum of 6 positions pyrometer, and not require a separate plug in readout. It shall be something similar to the Fire Watchmen Pyrometer https://www.firefacilities.com/accessory/fire-watchman-pyrometer/ so that temperatures are stored and can be recalled.
5 The panels were installed when the building was built. The panels meet the requirements of ASTM E84, Class “A”. You are not replacing these panels. You are only adjusting them. I don’t see how their procurement is relevant to this project.
6 See the attached pictures. They show what is behind the panels in the Burn Room and Hallway. There is no underlayment material in these rooms. The panels are just attached to metal strips.
7 Test all four anchors. Paragraph 16 in the SOW has been revised.

Question
Yes. Paragraph 1 in the SOW has been revised.
No additional formating information
Paragraph 12 in the SOW has been revised.
Answer
ADA and ADAAG requirements are not applicable to this project.
No
No
N/A
No
The inspection reports have already been provided. There is no further information to provide.
The data shall be collected via USB or Bluetooth for later comparison and study. It will be monitored via a digital readout mounted on the side of the building.
NFPA 1402 requires the engineer to have “live fire training experience”.
The “gate” is a 1-leaf swinging gate that will be installed at the west end of the new platform. The leaf will be 40" long. The gate is not the same thing as the platform.
Paragraphs 3 and 4 in the SOW have been revised for better clarity.
Paragraph 20 in the SOW says the following: “Remove and replace the roof hatch. Install a stainless steel hatch, same size as existing.
Install two hold down clamps.” The new hatch will be stainless steel, and the same size as the existing hatch.
See Answer #6 above.
Paragraph 7 in the SOW has been revised.
Yes, as long as these type of panels are approved by the design engineer.
25 The new hatch will be the same size as the existing hatch. The ladder should not affect the hatch size.
Question Answer
26 The engineer will determine if the hollow metal doors in a fire training structure need to be fire rated. All doors on the ground floor will have fire panels on the inside surface, so that probably makes them “fire rated” doors. The double-swinging door does not need to have a “fire rating”.
However, since it will have burn panels on both sides of it, it essentially will be a fire rated door.
27 We are not specifying any particular type of framing for this project.
You can install anything you want, as long as it is approved by the engineer.
