About this file
This document contains questions and answers regarding a request for information (RFI) for expanded initial flight training (E-IFT) services. The Air Education and Training Command of the Department of the Air Force issued the RFI to solicit information from potential vendors. The questions and answers provide clarification on training requirements for different student types, specifying that remotely piloted aircraft and combat systems officer students require individual flight time and cannot have their training satisfied solely by observation. Additionally, while supplemental training can be conducted in advanced aircraft training devices, vendors must meet the minimum flight time requirements defined in the statement of objectives. The Government's desired timeline for E-IFT pilots to progress from start to graduation is between 120-150 calendar days but no more than 179 calendar days.

AETC E-IFT RFI QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Date: 14 December 2023
QUESTION ANSWER
1. With regard to those students classified as RPA and CSO, do they require individual training, or can their instrucon be sasfied by observaon of pilots who are receiving instrucon inflight. In other words, can the requirements be sasfied if they are observers of someone receiving actual instrucon while riding in a rear seat?
RPA/CSO students require individual training.
Observing pilots from a rear seat does not meet this requirement. We also recommend reviewing all previously answered quesons that were posted to this same RFI on sam.gov.
2. With regard to those students classified as RPA and CSO, could any part of their training occur in an AATD fixed or moon flight simulator?
The requirement is for actual flight me. Addional training above and beyond what is specified could be completed in a fixed or moon flight simulator, but all soluons must meet the minimum flight me defined in the SOO.
3. What is the desired meline for the E-IFT pilots from start to graduaon?
The Government expects a training program capable of producing quality pilots to be accomplished in the most expedious manner possible that is ideally between 120-150 calendar days, but, at maximum, is no longer than 179 calendar days.
