About this file

This document is a structural calculations report prepared by Froelich Engineers, Inc. for the Beatty Wellness Facility project located in Beatty, Oregon. The project involves the design of a new single-story wellness facility featuring plywood-sheathed wood stud walls, pre-manufactured wooden roof trusses, and conventional foundation systems. The structural design complies with the 2024 International Building Code (IBC) and 2025 Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC), with calculations dated August 28, 2026. The facility is designed for a site at 42.442°N latitude and -121.271°W longitude at an elevation of approximately 4,356 feet, with design parameters including a ground snow load of 54 psf, basic wind speed of 98 mph (Exposure C), and seismic design category D based on mapped spectral accelerations of 0.49g (short-period) and 0.18g (long-period).

The structural design incorporates specific gravity loads with a total roof dead load of 24 psf (including solar-ready zone provisions), exterior wall dead load of 10 psf, and controlled roof snow load of 40.8 psf. Primary structural elements include premanufactured roof trusses at 24-inch on-center spacing, 5.5-inch by 10.5-inch and 5.5-inch by 13.5-inch glulam beams, 2x8 dimensional lumber roof joists, and 4x6 and 6x6 wood posts on concrete footings. The report includes detailed design calculations for roof beams (RB1 through RB4), roof joists (RJ1), columns at various heights (C1 through C3), and footing configurations, with all elements demonstrating compliance with allowable stress design (ASD) criteria per the National Design Specification (NDS) 2024. Seismic analysis using the equivalent lateral force procedure (ASCE 7-22) calculated a base shear of 9,671 pounds, with vertical distribution applied to the roof level. Wind and seismic shear wall design specifications are provided for four wall lines with hardware requirements and nailing schedules detailed for lateral force resistance.

Value provided is 3-second gust wind speeds at 33 ft above ground for Exposure C Category, based on linear interpolation between contours. Wind speeds are interpolated in accordance with the 7-22 Standard. Wind speeds correspond to approximately a 7% probability of exceedance in 50 years (annual exceedance probability = 0.00143, MRI = 700 years). Values for 10-year MRI, 25-year MRI, 50-year MRI and 100-year MRI are Service Level wind speeds, all other wind speeds are Ultimate wind speeds.

Site is not in a hurricane-prone region as defined in ASCE/SEI 7-22 Section 26.2.

Values provided are ground snow loads. In areas designated "case study required," extreme local variations in ground snow loads preclude mapping at this scale. Site-specific case studies are required to establish ground snow loads at elevations not covered.

Snow load values are mapped to a 0.5 mile resolution.

This resolution can create a mismatch between the mapped elevation and the site-specific elevation in topographically complex areas. Engineers should consult the local authority having jurisdiction in locations where the reported ‘elevation’ and ‘mapped elevation’ differ significantly from each other.
