About this file
This document is a technical specification section (210200) for Fire Suppression Systems for the City of Ft. Myers Parks & Records Departments' Warehouse Conversion project. The specification outlines comprehensive requirements for designing, installing, and testing a fire sprinkler system, with detailed compliance mandates including adherence to NFPA 13 (2019 Edition), Florida Building Code, Florida Fire Prevention Code, and other relevant national and local standards. The system will require a hydraulically designed wet and dry pipe sprinkler installation that provides a minimum 10 psi safety margin, with precise requirements for pipe materials, fittings, valves, sprinkler heads, and installation techniques.
The specification mandates that the fire protection system be installed by fully experienced workers, with specific qualifications including submission of contractor documentation, professional engineering oversight, and comprehensive testing protocols. The contractor must provide detailed shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and product data for review, and will be responsible for creating as-built documentation. Additional requirements include providing a surface-mounted cabinet with spare sprinkler heads, a 120V alarm bell, flow switches, and comprehensive owner training consisting of two 8-hour training sessions covering system description, operational procedures, maintenance, and warranties. The specification emphasizes strict adherence to safety standards, with provisions for protecting surfaces, temporary capping of open piping, and maintaining an accurate record of all system modifications during installation.
