George Crady Fishing Pier
Safety Railings
CN214‐TA35
Subtask 1: Data Collection and Preliminary Plan Set Description: George & Associates, Consulting Engineers, Inc. (G&A) will conduct an as‐built review of the existing fishing pier. The project limits consist of 2,277’ of fishing pier from the eastern entrance of the George Crady Bridge to approximately Bent #26 of the bridge. A project extents map highlighting this area was provided by BDC as the George Crady Bridge Nassau Sound – Safety Closure, sheet EXB‐1.
G&A will collect measurements and photographic data necessary for the design of the safety railings and barrier within this area. Data collection will also include a desktop review of available information related to the design and construction of the existing bridge deck, curb, and concrete handrails. A review of how these elements were constructed, in particular the steel reinforcing, will help determine the best proposed handrail attachment anchorage.
BDC to provide to G&A any available recent inspection reports and prior planning documents in digital format. G&A will reach out to FDOT District 2 for any additional documentation for the bridge. The proposed guardrail will be per FDOT specifications. We will coordinate as necessary with FDOT District 2 for the implementation of FDOT spec handrails on the existing bridge.
Measurements and research documents will be used to create a typical section and preliminary plan set of the proposed improvements. G&A will prepare preliminary design plans and details for construction of the safety railings that meet FDOT specifications including an overall project limits map, typical section view, and associated details.
A preliminary cost estimate based off the quantities in the construction documents with unit prices will be submitted as part of the plans package. Engineering services include planning documents of safety railings that meet FDOT specifications and Florida Building Code safety standards.
Final results will be documented in a report of findings. Any additional planning documents procured during this phase will be provided to the BDC for their internal files.
Note: Lead and Asbestos Testing are not currently proposed as the bridge structure has undergone testing in the past. If additional testing services are requested as part of this project, then these services can be added to the proposal.
