About this file

This is Attachment M containing District-Specific Special Provisions for Safety requirements for Right of Way Mowing & Litter Removal Services under Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) IFB #159371. The document outlines specific requirements for 29 different lots covering various locations throughout Virginia, including detailed requirements for mowing operations, equipment specifications, crew requirements, and allowable work hours. For many lots, primary route mowing must be completed by Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, with secondary routes requiring completion within 30 working days. Several lots require the use of Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMA) during mowing operations, particularly on high-traffic routes.

The specifications vary by lot but generally include requirements for equipment such as 75 HP minimum tractors, slope mowers, batwings, and bush hogs. Many lots require crews of six people and specific equipment combinations like motorized push mowers and trimmers. Work hours are often restricted, particularly on primary routes (typically 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday-Friday), with special restrictions around high-traffic events like Virginia Tech football games and university graduations. Vegetation must typically be mowed to a finished height of 4 inches, with requirements to maintain areas from the edge of pavement to specified distances behind ditch lines, bike paths, and guardrails. The document includes detailed traffic control requirements and lane closure allowances for specific routes and jurisdictions.
