About this file
This document contains inspection guidelines for fire and flood systems on ships. The guidelines include procedures for testing alarm circuits and sensors for heat, smoke, and flooding. Inspectors are directed to check continuity of alarm circuits, activate flooding sensors by tipping floats or shorting probes, manually operate sensors to check remote monitoring, and activate heat sensors using a hot air gun. Inspectors must record results and report any discrepancies. The periodic inspections are conducted according to Naval Sea Systems Command specifications.

Description Item Activate all flooding sensors by tipping floats or shorting probes to check for proper operation.
Are sensor cutout switches numbered and chart present? Do cutouts isolate alarms circuit as indicated on chart?
All sensors operated mannually indicate proper vessel and location on remote monitoring systems.
Are Fire/Flood sensors correctly located in respect to electrical power and water tight sub-division of a ship?
Visual and audible alarms activate when the sensor is actuated.
Each fire wire heat sensor is activated.
Each smoke detector is activated using canned smoke to ensure its proper operation.
Have all other discrepancies been reported? If not report them here.
