AOPI Bldg. 8110
Building 8110 Foam Storage Area: Building 8110 was previously owned by the ARNG, which operated the building from an unknown time until 2018. ARNG operations that involved potential release of PFAS include the storage of two fire trucks, 13 55-gallon drums of AFFF, and 33 5-gallon buckets of AFFF. The Fort Carson DPW now owns Building 8110.

Landfill 5: Landfill 5 is located in the northeast corner of the Cantonment Area, close to the installation boundary. The landfill is approximately 20 acres. Construction debris, mixed sanitary waste, waste from the old mule barn area, coal cinders, ash, and waste petroleum, oil, and lubricants were disposed of in the landfill.
Area 4 16: Vapor Degreaser Site, Building 8000: The Vapor Degreaser Site was located inside Building 8000 within the Cantonment Area. The vapor degreaser was located in a pit and solvents were used in the degreaser to clean parts.
53: The Former Waste Oil/Solvent Underground Storage Tanks, Building 8000 are located in the north portion of the Cantonment Area. The two underground tanks were used to store waste oil and solvents generated at the Building 8000 maintenance facility.
12
109
109 is the former used/waste oil underground storage
tank (UST), Building 1392. Included one 600-gallon concrete oil/water separator (OWS) associated with the former vehicle wash rack (VWR) and one 1,000-gallon fiberglass UST associated with vehicle maintenance operations at Building 1392.
13
AOPI Bldg. 1982
ARNG Building 1982 Foam Storage is identified as an AOPI following records research, personnel interviews, and site reconnaissance. Building 1982 is being investigated for potential release of PFAS due to operations between 2018 and 2019. ARNG trucks, 13 55-gallon drums and 33 5-gallon buckets of AFFF were transferred to Building 1982 in mid-2018 and housed there until they were moved offsite in late 2019.

2: Landfill 2 is located east of the Cantonment Area. A combined trench and area fill method was used at the approximately 67-acre site. Sanitary waste, sludge from multiple sources, cinder ash, and waste petroleum, oil, and lubricants were disposed of at the landfill. Explosives and unexploded ordnance were also potentially disposed of; however, no evidence of these items was found during the RFI.
3: Landfill 3 is a site located contiguous to Landfill 2, east of the Cantonment Area. A combined trench and area fill method was used at the Landfill 2 and 3 sites. Sanitary waste, sludge from multiple sources, cinder ash, and waste petroleum, oil, and lubricants were disposed of at the landfill. Explosives and unexploded ordnance were also potentially disposed of; however, no evidence of these items was found during the RFI. Corrective action at SWMU 3 will occur under the corrective action process for SWMU 2.
8: Landfill 8 is located east of the Cantonment Area. The landfill is approximately 13 acres. Construction and demolition debris were disposed of at the landfill.

AOPI Golf Course
The Fort Carson Golf Course is identified as an AOPI following records research, personnel interviews, and site reconnaissance.
Treated effluent from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is discharged to two permitted outfalls. In the summer, most of the effluent is discharged to the Golf Course Holding Pond, a permitted outfall that receives and reserves treated effluent from the STP. The pond water is used for irrigation of the golf course and as a reserve for firefighting at the clubhouse. The GCHP has received treated STP effluent via an approximately 3-mile long, 12-inch diameter permanent line since 1972.

AOPI Bldg. 9633
Hangar 9633 historically contained 2,000 gallons of AFFF in the fire suppression system, which was removed in July/August 2018. While there are no documented releases of AFFF at this location, minor leaks may have occurred.
20
AOPI Bldg. 9608
Building 9608 stored an unknown quantity and type of AFFF contained in blue 55-gallon barrels. In 2018 the barrels were turned in to the FTC DPW for disposal. Building 9608 has been demolished. While there are no documented releases of AFFF at this location, minor leaks may have occurred.

89
SWMU 89 consisted of a former used/waste oil UST. The UST was removed in 1990, and the volatile organic compounds impacted soil beneath the UST was excavated to a depth of 20 feet below ground surface (bgs). VOCs were detected in groundwater at concentrations which exceeded the Colorado
Groundwater Standards (CGWSs).
22
23/24
23: The Sewage Treatment Lagoons are located at Butts Army Air Field. The site consisted of two evaporation lagoons, each approximately 2 acres. Wastewater from the Butts AAF and water and fire retardant chemicals used in fire training areas were
discharged to the lagoons.
24: The Fire Training Area and Fire Training Storage Area are located at the east end of Butts AAF. The Fire Training Area was an approximately 60 x 60 x 3 feet deep concrete basin. The Fire Training Storage Area was immediately east of the Fire Training Area. Off-specification and waste fuels were stored at the Fire Training Storage Area for fire training exercises in the Fire Training Area.
