About this file
This document is an Approval Letter from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) granting stormwater management and sediment & erosion control approval for a federal construction project.
The key details are:
- The project is Contract No. N40080-20-D-0018 AI No. 178627 RM15-0242 to repair a utility support structure at the Naval Academy in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
- The project has an earth disturbance of 1 acre or greater, so the contractor must submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) application for the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit for Stormwater Associated with Construction Activity.
- Stormwater management waivers have been granted for the underground utility and maintenance work, and water quality requirements are being satisfied through non-rooftop disconnections.
- The project requires authorization from the MDE Wetlands and Waterways Protection Program and is located in the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, subject to Critical Area requirements.
- A portion of the project is in a FEMA 100-year floodplain, so the contractor must coordinate with FEMA regarding any changes to the floodplain boundaries or elevations.
