8 7/25/2024 Locations for test piles are not indicated on the drawings. Please confirm test piles may be used as production pile if the requirements of specifications are met.
See sheet S-001. Note #5D states that one test pile must be provided at each bridge pile cap.
9 7/25/2024 Please confirm that SUB CLIN 0001C for "Steel Pipe Piles finished in place and accepted" is to include the production of (and pulling of) test piles required.
Specification section 31 62 16.13 Paragraph 3.3.1 states that test piles may be used in finished work “if located properly and offering adequate driving resistance”.
It is the Contractor’s responsibility to ensure adequate location and installation of all test piles. The DOR and Contracting Officer must be notified in the event that a test pile does not offer adequate driving resistance.
Given the design is informed by geotechnical investigation and borings, it is not anticipated that any test piles will require removal.
However, the production/installation of said test piles is to be included in SUB CLIN 0001C. Refer to specification section 31 62
16.13 for additional test pile requirements.
10 7/25/2024 Please provide full geotechnical report referenced. (Terracon Consultants, Replace King George St Utility Bridge dated 15 December 2023.

Installation of trestle is permitted. NOTE: All mudline disturbance within the LOD is already covered by licenses procured via MDE and USACE. Installation of pipe pile for trestle outside of the approved LOD will require further consultation and approval by MDE and will be the responsibility of the Contractor.
13 8/2/2024 Will the Government provide a bid allowance or quantity for repairing or replacing the sump pumps?
No. The Contractor is responsible for cleaning, repairing, and verifying operating status of the sumps. In the event a sump is determined to be irreparable and in need of replacement, the Contractor must alert the Contracting Officer. The Government is responsible for sump replacement.
14 8/2/2024 There is not information documenting the quantity required for removal. Will the Government provide an allowance?
Delete this portion of work from the project scope.
15 8/2/2024 Regarding the leaking piping throughout the tunnel system, will the Government provide a bid allowance for pipe insulation removal and repair?
No. Pipe insulation removal and repair is not a portion of scope for this project.
16 8/2/2024 New secondary floor drain, please provide a detail showing the new underground and aboveground piping with tie-ins points?
The secondary floor drain must connect to the existing floor drain line, with the inlet raised (lower than the door that would flood the room), to allow water out in the event the main drain backs up or overflows.
The Contractor is responsible for submitting a shop drawing of the tie-in for Government approval.
17 8/2/2024 Regarding P1 - Louvers, Please provide counts and sizes of each louver? The bid schedule now contains a line item specifically for repairs in accordance with detail B2/S-504, not to include any repairs associated with or requiring details B4 or A2/S-504.

22 8/2/2024 What will be required for the security relating the east entry temporary construction entrance.
Contractor must install a complete interior perimeter with 8' high chain link fence with triple strand barbed wire on outriggers. Any interior gate must be double locked (one for contractor, one for security and confirmed secure daily. Contractor must also install temporary gate across open panel during work and confirm securing daily as well.
23 8/2/2024 Please provide classifications of the waterways associated with this project. I believe you intend to reference Note 9 in regards to in-stream work restrictions. This project is not subject to any time of year restrictions for construction.
24 8/2/2024 Please confirm which notice as required for excavation. These specifications do not align. One says 48 hours and the other 20 days.
The Contractor is required to call Miss Utility for markings at least 48 hours prior to excavation. A dig permit must be submitted to our UEM department 21 days prior to excavation.
25 8/2/2024 Please provide the Hazardous Material Survey and quantities required for removal. S-001 Note 8 reads: Hazardous materials: all paint coatings on bridge must be abated for lead based paint. There is not expected to be any other hazardous materials on the bridge.
Hazardous Materials Survey is not available.
26 8/9/2024 We do not know the sizes of piping that need to be fixed. If the majority of pipe is larger than 6”, the pricing will change drastically.
See attached: 'CLIN0002D Note P3 Comments'
There are no leaking pipes and therefore no pipe repairs to be done by the contractor. The leaking refers to water penetrating around the pipe, conduit or cable. Less often, in the case of abandoned in place pipes or conduits the water is leaking through, and/or around the pipe or conduit.
27 8/9/2024 Do we know if there is any steam piping that is leaking? There is no leaking steam piping identified. In the event a steam leak is discovered that will be handled by the utility system operators and work will be shifted to other unaffected areas until the repair is made.
28 8/9/2024 Do we know if we can do shutdowns for long periods of time i.e. for a week at a time for six months straight?
There is no necessity for any extended utility shutdowns for this work. The Chill water outage to install the four valves and blanking flanges will require all material and preparatory work to be complete and ready on site prior to the outage. The contractor shall work all four points simultaneously during a single 14 day outage to be scheduled in the winter months during minimal chill water loading.
The Government will isolate the area of work via existing valves on the system main lines.
29 8/9/2024 Can we freeze the piping, if so, the systems cannot be energized with flow. Freezing the piping could be done at considerable effort, but there is no reason to do this. There is only one major outage in the tunnel portion of the project and that is in an area the Utility operators can isolate via valves. There is no reason for freezing any system for cutover on the bridge portion of the project as the method for cutovers for the raw, potable, and HTHW are already specified.
