About this file
This is Amendment A00002 to solicitation 75H701-25-R-00002 for the Parker Duplex Quarters project issued by the Indian Health Service Division of Engineering Services in Seattle. The amendment provides responses to pre-proposal inquiries #4-11 regarding construction specifications and requirements.
Key clarifications include: wood door casing trim specifications (paint grade solid pine, 2.5" width), drywall termination details around door jambs, requirements for flashing and waterproofing at exterior wall openings with fiber cement panels, structural steel inspection requirements (periodic inspection needed for certain items), air barrier specifications (Tyvek approved for all areas except EIFS surfaces), and confirmation that EIFS finish coat must have integral color rather than field painting. The amendment also clarifies that the contractor must contract a geotechnical firm for soil observation/inspection rather than using the soils engineer of record. The solicitation due date remains unchanged at November 18, 2024.

Amendment A00002 dated 12/3/2024
4. A5.0 Detail 3/A5.0 calls for wood trim, there is no spec section for finish carpentry or any call out on the door schedule to be able to quote a product. Can you please provide a spec for the wood trim associated with this detail?
COR/
BWS
Wood door casing trim to be paint grade solid pine (or equal), 2 ½” width, standard profile to be selected during submittal review.
5. A5.0 & Spec 092900
Detail 5/A5.0 shows a drywall finish around the door jamb. Can you confirm the intent is to have the exterior doors cased in drywall? If they are to be cased with drywall please provide a spec for the termination of drywall so exposed gypsum is not shown.
COR/
BWS
Drywall may be terminated with J trim per Spec Section 092900. In addition, interior face of door frame may be aligned with face of drywall during installation.
6. A5.0 & Spec 074600
Details on A5.0 are absent of a head flashing detail for all fenestrations within the fiber cement section. Is it to be understood that only the sill will receive the flex paper waterproofing prior to install and no head flashing is to be installed at these areas?
COR/
BWS
Openings in exterior walls with fiber cement panels shall be fully flashed per Spec Section 074600 and fiber cement panel manufacturer’s standard details.
7. A5.0 & Spec 074600
Details on A5.0 do not provide a termination detail for siding around exterior doors, is it understood that the edge of the siding boards are the be left exposed to field of view, and there is no revel around the doors and caulking is the only point of waterproofing to finish the install?
COR/
BWS
All “exposed” ends to be captured by furnishing and installing metal trims called out in Spec Section 074600 and according to manufacturer’s details.

8. S0.1 The special inspections notes 1 & 2 listed on S0.1 under structural steel, do not indicate frequency of inspection, can you please elaborate on the requirement of these verifications/inspections, is GC to provide an engineer report that materials have been identified as correct per plans & spec? Will only one observation for material satisfy requirement, or will an observation for material be required with every special inspection?
COR/
BWS
Structural Steel items 1A and 2A require periodic inspection by the special structural inspector. Items 1B and 2B should be submitted during shop drawing review.
9. C0.1 Note 4 within the paving and grading notes on C0.1 call for soils engineer to observe and inspect. Is the soils engineer of record who put together the soils report contracted to perform this scope?
COR/
BWS
No. This should be contracted by the Contractor. And the entity that would observe/inspect/test would typically be a Geotechnical firm.
10. The spec calls for a basis of design for the air barrier as Tyvek but then refers to the material spec as GreenGuard. Is it acceptable to wrap the whole building in Tyvek? If not, please elaborate on which conditions the Tyvek is to be used and then the GreenGuard is to be used.
COR/
BWS
Tyvek may be used at all areas requiring sheet air barrier. This is not required at EIFS surfaces, as the EIFS has its own fluid applied air barrier.
11. Spec 072410
Please confirm if it is acceptable to be able paint the stucco in the field in leu of color addictive.
COR/
BWS
There is no stucco on the project. The EIFS finish coat to be integral color as specified in 072410.
