About this file

This document is a notification from the Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City regarding new visitor access requirements in accordance with the REAL ID Act of 2005. Effective immediately, all sponsored visitors must present a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an alternative federally accepted form of identification to access the installation without additional security screening. The document provides an extensive list of acceptable identification forms, including U.S. passports, military IDs, trusted traveler cards, and various government-issued credentials. A detailed access decision flowchart outlines the process for visitor entry, which includes checking for proper identification, verifying sponsor submission of visitor information at least 96 hours prior, and conducting background checks when necessary.

The accompanying REAL ID informational page highlights that starting May 7, 2025, individuals will need a REAL ID to board domestic flights and access certain federal and Department of Defense facilities. It explains that the REAL ID Act establishes minimum security standards for identification cards and provides guidance on how to obtain a REAL ID, including required documentation such as proof of full legal name, date of birth, address, and lawful status. The document emphasizes the importance of checking with local driver's licensing agencies for specific requirements and directs individuals to tsa.gov/real-id for more information and campaign materials.
