FAA Response: Yes Primavera P6 is acceptable.
14. Pre-Bid Ques ons regarding the DDC por on of the project (Div. 23-09-23):
M603 – Details 3, 5 & 6:
1) Detail 3 calls for a modula ng control valve. However, this unit is not controlled by the DDC (See page M809), Is the intent to have a manufactured provided valve that modulates? Or, will this valve consist of On/Off control via local thermostat? We recommend the controls contractor provide this valve as ON/Off with flow control characteris cs. Please advise to the intent.
FAA Response: Refer to Drawing M809 HOT WATER UNIT HEATER SEQUENCE OF OPERATIONS.
The hot water valve shall be a Belimo Energy Valve (modula ng).
2) Detail 5 shows the hea ng make up water piping, however, there is no DDC meter shown on this detail. Page M813 describes the make up water meter, but there are no points in the matrix for the meter. Typically, the purpose of these meters is to show possible water leakage on a closed loop system if there is an abnormal amount of water introduced to the system.
a. We would typically provide 2 F4600 flow meters (1 ea) for the chilled water and hot water make up water. Please provide direc on on what the FAA is looking for.
FAA Response: Please bid make-up water meter as described. Loca on of flow meters to be discussed with FAA COR.
3) Detail 6 shows an energy valve for the VAV hot water coil. Energy valves are not the best solu on for control at low GPM’s. We recommend using a Belimo Q series flow control valve that is designed for these types of applica ons. If this recommenda on is accepted, note that these valves do not come with the temperature sensor well, please confirm if a temperature in the supply line of the hot water reheat piping is what the FAA desires.
FAA Response: Energy valves are not required for VAVs. Please provide a pressure independent control valve for this applica on. An acceptable valve would be PIQCV. Other valves will be considered through submi al process. VAV supply water temperature is not required.
M606 – Detail 2 Glycol feeder schema c:
Metering sequence of opera on:
1. This drawing is calling for the following:
a. Domes c water meter
b. Make up water meter (addressed in previous ques on)
c. Electric Meter
d. Natural gas meter
Does the FAA want this metering (a, c & d) and if so, who is providing/installing these meters? It does not seem clear to us what the intent is, please clarify. If DDC contractor is providing, is there metering devices that are pre-approved by the FAA?
FAA Response: Domes c water meter can be deleted from scope. Contractor must provide and install make up water meter, electric meter, and natural gas meter. The intent is to have readily available informa on about u lity usage.
Network Architecture:
1. This diagram shows a “Supervisory Controller” – however, the specifica ons do not allow for this and specifies that a Network Server Controller (NSC) shall be used on each cri cal system.
Shall we assume the specifica ons (Sec on 23-09-23-70) supersedes this detail?
FAA Response: Correct
15. The basis of design mechanical equipment is stated as JCI/York with no other acceptable manufacturers listed. Are alternate/equal equipment manufacturers, such as Trane, acceptable?
FAA Response: Refer to specifica ons. Other manufacturers will be considered if all the requirements have been met. (i.e. floor space, piping connec ons, etc.) All major equipment shall be from one manufacturer.
16. Basis of design boiler manufacturer is stated as Lochinvar; are alternate/equal manufacturers, such as Viessmann, acceptable?
FAA Response: Refer to specifica ons. Other manufacturers will be considered if all the requirements have been met. The contractor will inherit all liability for any modifica on to the design that might be necessary to meet the project requirements. (i.e. floor space, piping connec ons, etc.) All major equipment shall be from one manufacturer.
17. The HVAC return grills show as just a grill on the plans, using above ceiling as their return plenum. Typically, we see acous cally lined elbows a ached to these grills for noise reduc on. It also prevents people from looking up into an unfinished ceiling. The specs and details and do not appear to call these out as a requirement. Will acous cally lined elbows at the grills be required?
FAA Response: Please provide acous cally lined elbows as described.
18. The in-duct humidifier does not show detail on how it's installed within the duct. Typically we see in duct humidifiers installed in a minimum of 5' of stainless duct with a drain trough built in; will this be required on this project?
FAA Response: Install per the manufacturers installa on instruc ons. The intent was to replace the wall mounted unit and reuse the exis ng distribu on systems. If the new equipment requires a different installa on than what is exis ng, contractor to install per manufacturer’s installa on instruc ons.
19. Specifica on sec on 011000, paragraph 1.10.A: states normal working hours as Monday through Thursday, 10 hours/day with work outside normal working hours requiring COR approval.
