About this file
This document is a technical specification section (Section 10 73 16) for prefabricated aluminum canopies to be installed at the VA Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island as part of an MRI space expansion and renovation project. The specification details requirements for a Mapes Cantilever Super Lumideck, Flat Soffit (PERP) Canopy system, including material specifications, fabrication standards, and installation guidelines.
Key technical requirements include using aluminum framing with ASTM standards, extruded aluminum decking with 3-inch by 6-inch flat profile, 8-inch J-style aluminum fascia, and a rear gutter with downspout. The canopy must have a high-performance organic finish complying with AAMA 2605 standards, with a custom color to match aluminum composite wall panels. Installation specifications mandate precise welding techniques, corrosion protection, and coordination with other construction elements. The project includes a five-year warranty for the canopy components and a ten-year warranty for the finish, with specific performance requirements for structural integrity and thermal movement.

4. Weld corners and connections continuously. Obtain fusion without undercut or overlap. Remove welding flux immediately. At exposed corners and connections, finish exposed welds and surfaces smooth and blended so no roughness shows after finishing and contour of welded surface matches that of adjacent surface.
5. Provide for anchorage of type indicated; coordinate with supporting structure. Space anchoring devices to secure metal fabrications in place and to properly transfer loads.
