About this file
This is a service report documenting maintenance and testing work performed on a CAT C275S Generator and CAT C27 Diesel Engine at El Paso VA Medical Center on April 25, 2025. The work was conducted by Stewart & Stevenson technician Karlo under contract with point of contact Octavio Lujan at the facility located at 5001 N. Piedras, El Paso, TX 79930.
The primary service activities included pre-run safety checks on the generator/loadbank installation, completion of 30% load testing for 30 minutes, monthly load testing with increased loads to 56% for 36 months, troubleshooting of a day tank that exhibited loss of prime, and a 4-hour load bank test. Technicians identified and corrected issues including day tank leaks, installed an auxiliary pump to supplement fuel supply as needed, and confirmed the auxiliary pump provides 4 GPM with the C27 engine consuming a maximum of 2.56 GPM. The fuel cell was deemed adequate, though loss of prime must be corrected. A detailed inspection data summary documents all generator and engine systems, including electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, air systems, and exhaust systems—all rated in good condition. AC meter readings recorded consistent 480-volt three-phase power across all phases at 60.03 Hz with calculated loaded amperage of 576.1 kW. Recommendations include replacing clear hoses from the pump outlet for visual flow confirmation during weekly inspections per NFPA 110, replacing fuel supply filters, and replacing check valves while providing low fuel alarm input to the C27 controller to annunciate low fuel conditions.
