Install Roll Down Gates for Garages
Solicitation Number: 36C25619R0042 Agency: Department of Veterans Affairs Office: VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System Location: Department of Veterans Affairs Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System Questions/Clarifications
1. Will the VA provide a designated laydown area for materials? If so, where is the laydown area located? Laydown area is limited. The VA will provide a laydown space on the first floor of each garage for small tools and equipment. Materials for construction will be delivered each day and installed that day.
2. Can the VA provide the exact brand/spec and number of bollards needed for the alternative bid as well as the exact location to install? This information will be posted in an addendum.
3. Will qualified traffic control personnel be needed for traffic safety or will signs/flag waver be feasible to direct traffic away from the work area? A qualified traffic control safety person will be required when working directly in the traffic lanes. Cones and barricades shall be used around the work areas.
4. Steel will be needed to mount the roll down gates to the garage. Will the mounting hardware need to be painted a specific color? Use galvanized steel with stainless mounting bolts to mount to the garage structure, not painted.
5. Spec requires grills with metal/mesh. Will products with aluminum rods be acceptable? (See product brochure attached.) The attached brochure represents typical commercial storefront applications not applicable to vehicular traffic. Aluminum will be acceptable as long as the gate can withstand the impact of large vehicles including trucks.
6. Will signage be allowed to be moved in a uniform manner in order to accommodate exterior mounted door? It will be advantageous to the government to exterior mount the doors. It would be more advantageous to the VA if the roll down gates were mounted on the inside of the overhead beam thus avoiding relocation of the numerous signs. Conduit and junction boxes on the inside of the overhead beam would have to be relocated to accommodate the gate housing. Vertical gate rails would be mounted to the slab inside the garage and anchored at the base and to the overhead beam.
7. Is there any procedure for patch work? Patch work will be needed if signs are allowed to be moved where electrical lines were previously drilled in the concrete spans. Patch work on the overhead beam would be minimal if the housing were to be mounted on the inside of the beam.
8. Please identify the location and distance to the electrical panel where the new roll down doors will tie into the system. Please do this for both garages.
Please see attached PDF’s of electrical drawings for the two parking garages.
9. Please verify that the designated electrical panels has enough empty space to tie in the three doors required for the Rocheblave garage and the Galvez garage.
What are the proposed electrical requirements and how many circuits will be required. This question must be answered before verification of electrical service.
10. Please identify the location of the onsite storage for this project.
On-site storage is limited. Space will be made available for tool job boxes and welding machine in each garage. Materials for installation will be delivered to the job on a daily basis for installation that day.
11. Will Schedule 40 pipe filled with concrete suffice as a protection bollard for the new gates where they are exposed to traffic damage?
No. Use steel pipe filled with concrete. Pipe shall be painted to match existing bollard color. Galvanized steel angles frame bolted to the concrete can be used as a protective barricade subject to VA approval.
12. Will gpr be required for each hole or cut into existing concrete?
Not necessary unless bollard is located close to under slab utilities.
13. Has the specs been provided for the removable bollards?
Steel bollard to match existing on-site with filled concrete core.
14. Has the location for the removable bollards been selected?
Please see attached files for proposed bollard locations. Actual location to be determined based on existing structural/foundation site conditions.
15. If external models are chosen for the roll down gates is the VA okay with removal and relocation of the existing garage signage?
Removal of any signage, conduit, cameras or other devices must be coordinated with the VA. Provide a representative plan of affected area and proposed solution. Subject to VA approval.
16. Will the VA allow the option of weekend work or evenings if the contractor determines it is required to complete the installation?
Coordinate with CO and COR.
17. Will doors be categorized by style or type(interior, exterior, jamb) when comparing cost benefits of one bid to another? Each door style has both benefits and drawback for service, looks and longevity, will the bids be compared on best value or the lowest bid price is the winner?
Lowest Price Technically Acceptable.
18. Will the VA provide a designated laydown area for materials? If so, where is the laydown area located?
a. Laydown area is limited. The VA will provide a laydown space on the first floor of each garage for small tools and equipment. Materials for construction will be delivered each day and installed.
19. Can the VA provide the exact brand/spec and number of bollards needed for the alternative bid as well as the exact location to install?
a. This information will be posted in an addendum.
20. Will qualified traffic control personnel be needed for traffic safety or will signs be feasible to direct traffic away from the work area?
a. A qualified traffic control safety person will be required when working directly in the traffic lanes. Cones and barricades shall be used around the work areas.
21. Steel will be needed to mount the roll down gates to the garage. Will the mounting hardware need to be painted a specific color?
a. Use galvanized steel with stainless mounting bolts to mount to the garage structure, not painted.
22. Spec requires grills with metal/mesh. Will products with aluminum rods be acceptable? (See product brochure attached.)
a. Aluminum will be acceptable as long as the gate can withstand the impact of large vehicles.
23. Roll down gates come in aluminum, clear anodized, or bronze. Are either of these finishes acceptable?
a. Aluminum or clear anodized will be acceptable. Product sample to be provided for approval by VA CO/COR.
File details come from the government source that posted it.
