About this file
This document is a Section 09 91 00 Painting specification for the VA Danville Renovate B103 PRRTP Bathrooms project (Project # 550-25-108) at VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, Illinois, dated 01-01-21.
The specification encompasses all labor, materials, equipment, and services required to complete painting and finishing work as shown on construction documents. Work includes prime coats on unprimed surfaces and all exposed surfaces, including ferrous and galvanized metals, interior concrete block, gypsum drywall, wood, pipes, mechanical and electrical items, and any surfaces for which painting is necessary to complete the project. All coatings must comply with Master Painters Institute (MPI) specifications and current approved product lists. Paints must meet VOC emissions limits per 40 CFR 59, contain no lead in excess of 0.06 percent by weight of non-volatile content, and comply with biobased content standards (minimum 20 percent for interior paint, 20 percent for exterior paint). Application methods include brush or roller, with spray application only upon written approval from the Contracting Officer Representative (COR). Surface preparation requirements vary by substrate type and include cleaning, sanding, and moisture testing (maximum 12 percent for concrete, masonry, and gypsum; 15 percent for wood). Unless otherwise specified, paint shall be applied in three coats: prime, body, and finish, with minimum 48 hours drying time between coats. The specification also includes detailed requirements for identity painting of pipes and systems per ASME A13.1, fire and smoke partition identification, column identification in pipe basements and interstitial spaces, and mechanical and electrical equipment field painting schedules with specific color codes and finish requirements.
