About this file
This document is a request for information (RFI) from the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding project number 610-311 to expand the first floor B-1 for PACT at the Northern Indiana Health Care System campus in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The RFI requests pricing and specification information for storefront systems, curtainwall, aluminum doors, and sunshades. Respondents are asked to identify applicable specification sections and drawings when submitting any questions. The response provides clarification that there is no approved manufacturer list for storefront systems, and that acceptable manufacturers and products will be determined after award during submittal review. It also requests curtainwall specifications and details for perimeter anchors and internal structural supports to allow for pricing, noting these details cannot be determined pre-bid.

There is not a list of approved manufacturers for storefront we are aware of. The storefront specifications provide requirements of the product. Whether a specific product or manufacturer is acceptable will be taken into consideration during the submittal phase after award, including substitutions. The curtain wall specification for this RFI is attached (again).

I have not located any curtainwall specifications. Also, we will either need direction from architect on what to include for perimeter anchors, or establish some sort of allowance as this information cannot be determined by us pre-bid, or come to agreeance that it will not be included in our bid and we’ll have to do a change order later once this information is known. Same would apply to internal structural steel support. These items cannot be determined on our end until we have an engineer review. We do not pre-engineer projects at bid time as that would cost tens of thousands of dollars. On other projects we have done with blast ratings, the owner has engaged a 3rd party engineer post award to review all systems (surround structure, steel, CW, etc.) to confirm a fully integrated blast rated integration into the building. Will this project be done similarly?
In addition, the details on sheet AS602 (reference detail 17 for example) state, “Blast mitigation per VA physical Security Manual”… Can this be provided?
I know some of these questions are vague, but I cannot even begin quoting or reviewing for more specific questions until a specification is received.
It is unlikely that we can have a price by bid date at this point, so please request specs asap so we can give it our best shot and not lose any additional time.

Another question… the storefront specs do not include a list of approved manufacturers. There aren’t any specifics on the drawings, either (the drawings indicate Kawneer as the BOD for curtainwall and sunshades, but do not say anything about the storefront). Can you provide a list of acceptable manufacturers, and a BOD manufacturer and series?
Please note, we are a Tubelite fabricator and will bid accordingly, and are unable to provide a Kawneer price.
Please confirm this is acceptable for all storefronts, curtainwall, aluminum doors, and sunshades.
