About this file
This document contains an amendment to a federal solicitation along with the related solicitation details. The amendment provides additional information regarding curtainwall requirements for an expansion project at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical center. The selected curtainwall basis of design is Kawneer 1600 due to its blast resistance capabilities. While other manufacturers may be proposed, bidders should use the Kawneer 1600 for reference. Bidders must contact manufacturers to obtain pricing for delegated curtainwall design and material upcharges. The bid due date of August 10, 2020 at 1:00 PM remains unchanged, with bids to be opened via conference call. The solicitation is for project 610-311 to expand the first floor B-1 area for a Patient Aligned Care Team at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center located in Cincinnati, Ohio, issued by the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 10.

The curtainwall Basis of Design is provided in numerous locations throughout the drawings as Kawneer 1600 curtainwall, which was selected due to the capability for the manufacturer to provide additional steel within the curtainwall members required by the physical security manual for blast resistance. The system was designed to be attached at top and bottom to structural components of the building, and we do not anticipate it needing any additional external structure. Of course, bidders may choose a different manufacturer, but they should use the basis of design system for reference.
The bidders will need to contact manufacturers and request pricing for the delegated design of the internal steel members as well as a cost for the material upcharge to the curtainwall, which an experienced manufacturer will be able to provide with the information in the drawings. The VA will not be hiring a 3rd party engineer to review all systems. That will be the responsibility of the general contractor to ensure that all systems are coordinated. We will provide general oversight and review to make sure that this happens.
The VA Physical Security Manual can be downloaded from the VA TIL website.
