RFI Responses 36C25020B0004

Civil

1) I believe they have incorrect data on these cut sheets. If you see the section 2 profile from Sheet CS102 below, it would show a 40’ Retaining wall, but this does not match Sheet CG101, Also if you look to the Right of the

Fence the Curb Elevation is 768.82. I believe the 807.32 and 807.56 are typos. I believe the largest part of the retaining wall will be the South Curve which will be a little over 12’.

Response: Yes, these are typos. Profile labels are not referencing the appropriate alignment. Plans updated to reflect Section 2. See attached plan.

2) Drawing LS102 does not delineate what is the scope of Alternate I to be removed from the project if Alternate

A is already accepted. Can you provide these details?

Response: Revised sheet is provided.

Structural

1) Ref. drawing SF102, note shown between c-lines 35.1 & 36.2 “new concrete column, typ”. Do the c-i-p columns project above second floor elevation 784’-10-1/2”?

Response: Columns do not project.

2) Ref. drawing SF102; detailed information is needed for slab inside stair shaft #1.

Response: Provide #5 @ 12” OC both ways for bottom steel at #4 x 36” @ 18” OC over the supports similar to Detail 8/SF501.”

3) Will steel contractor provide steel plates for slab infills per 12/SF501?

Response: It’s recommended that the steel contractor provide the plates, however it’s not required. Ensure plates meet project specifications and are properly coordinated amongst all disciplines involved with installation.

4) Can existing roof/1st floor slab be re-shored to basement slab-on-grade for the new concrete roof slab pour?

Response: Re-shoring the existing slab is not allowed. Shoring shall be designed in such a way that the allowable load of the existing slab is not exceeded.

Architectural

3) One additional clarification… we also need specs on the exterior aluminum sunshades. I’m assuming these will be included in the CurtainWall specs, but please confirm. Thanks.

Response: see AS201 for sunshade requirements and basis of design.

4) Is there a limit on the number of windows that we can remove per day? (If limited by contractor installing new windows)

Response: VA to determine.

5) If not limited, would poly be sufficient to cover the window or will we need to plan on boarding them up if they are going to remain open over night?

6) In the specifications it lists 22 windows. On drawing AD102 I only count 16 if Note 10 is our abatement. On drawings AD201 &

AD202 I only count 17. Please let me know how many we should be bidding.

Response: Asbestos report includes areas of the building which are not part of this project’s scope. G.C. shall provide abatement for any windows within project scope.

7) Drawing AS111 for the support of the operable partition wall, there is a conflict between the Structural

Detail 3/SF502 and the Architectural Detail 12/AS901. Which detail should we use?

Response: Architectural detail. Assume new steel is required for the operable partition wall.

8) Drawing AS603 remarks Column references See Detail on AS301. There is no AS301 in the set. Can you provide this drawing sheet and any details it shows?

Response: Reference should be to AS321.

9) Exterior Sheathing spec 061663 says 5/8” cement board. Is that Durock? but the plan sections on AS500 series show 3/4” sheathing - is that CDX Plywood? Which is correct to be used?

Response: 061663 specification refers to cement board. Drawings indicate ¾” exterior sheathing, see 06 10 00 for fire retardant plywood sheathing.

10) Drawing AF102 WP1 is Wall Protection. There is no indication of where this to be installed. Can you provide where if any WP1 Wall Protection is to be included?

Response: No locations indicated. Finish selection for potential use in project.

11) Drawing AQ101 has items noted CFCI that are not normally furnished by the contractor and can have wide ranges in pricing depending on the selection. Can you provide a Basis of Design (manufacturer and model number, etc) for these items:

a) 103 Wall mounted LCD Screen 72” mfr? model #?

b) 105 Flat screen TV 42” mfr? model#?

C) 107 Refrigerator-Whirlpool, model #?

d)108 Medstation Dispenser – Pyxis Medstation , model#? options to include?

e) 109 Medical Undercounter Freezer-Evolution series, model #?

f) 110 Medical Undercounter Refrigerator-Evolution series, model #?

g) 112 Ice maker with Dispenser-Scotsman , model #?

h) 113 Diagnostic Board, mfr? model? options?

Response: Drawing will be revised to indicate these are VA provided.

12) Spec 08 41 13 for the storefront specs do not include a list of approved manufacturers. There aren’t any specifics on the drawings, either (the drawings indicate Kawneer as the BOD for curtainwall and sunshades, but do not say anything about the storefront). Can you provide a list of acceptable manufacturers, and a BOD manufacturer and series? Is Tubelite an acceptable equal manufacturer? Please confirm acceptable for all storefronts, curtainwall, aluminum doors, and sunshades.

Response: response previously provided.

13) The specifications for the Curtain Wall system noted on the drawings will need to be engineered, but are missing. Can you provide specs for the Curtain Wall system?

14) The specs on the exterior aluminum sunshades are missing. I’m assuming these will be included in the CW specs, but please confirm.

Response: response provided above.

15) There are no Blast Window details for anchorage to the substrate. The curtainwall manufacturer will only be able to quote the system per the design requirements (once spec is received), not the connection to structure.

For that, we will need the architect to provide specifics on exact fasteners required, quantity of fasteners, location of fasteners, and substrate materials (and thicknesses). Can you provide these details?

Response: response previously provided regarding curtainwall specification, design intent, and delegated design.

16) It appears that all the exterior curtainwalls on sheet AS602 are to be blast rated. With that, we will need to know perimeter anchoring requirements for all of these elevations, along with exacts on internal steel support that we are to include. There is a good chance that specifications could help clear this up, but I cannot even begin reviewing/ quoting this with my manufacturer’s until I receive a spec. At this point, I would strongly request a bid extension on the CW, or request that the architect write in an allowance to be included for all bidders for this. Also, we need to know if we will have to include the blast engineering requirements for this project, or if the owner will engage a 3rd party engineer. Typically, we’ve seen a third party engineer be hired to not only design the CW, but also design the surround and anchorage to ensure a fully blast rated WALL system. Please confirm the extent of the

Blast Mitigation design intent.

Response: response previously provided regarding curtainwall specification, design intent, and delegated design.

17) Sheet AS602 (see detail 17 for example), the CW details have a statement, “Blast mitigation per VA physical security manual.”… Can this security manual be provided? I do not see that in the specifications.

18) Glazing specifications (088000, sheets 15 and 16) give glass make ups for types MG#1, IG#1, IL#1, and FR#1:

a) IG#1 does not appear to be used and is not referenced in the drawings. Please advise if/where this is used.

Not used.

b) IL#1 does not appear to be used and is not referenced in the drawings. Please advise if/where this is used.

Glazing specification will be revised.

c) FR#1 appears to only be applicable to the door lite at door C4B. However, the door schedule calls for glass type MG#1 at this door. Please advise which is correct, and if FR#1 is used on this project.

FR#1 shall be used at C4B.

19) The glazing schedule and curtainwall/ storefront schedule on sheet AS601 call for glass types MG#1, IL#3, and SG#1. Glass types IL#3 and SG#1 are not specified. Please provide make ups and manufacturers for these products.

Response: Glazing specification will be revised.

20) The curtainwall/ storefront schedule on sheet AS601 calls for glass make-up MG#1 at CW1. CW1 is an exterior entrance. Shouldn’t it receive an insulated unit? Please provide proper glass type for CW1. Also, the door type for CW1 is listed as SFD2 on curtainwall/ storefront schedule… what is door type SFD2?

Response: CW1 and CW9 shall be IL#3. Door type for CW1 shall be D6.

21) Curtainwall/ Storefront schedule on sheet AS601: CW7 calls for a door type D6. Elevation view on sheet

AS602 does not show a door. Please update the CW/SF schedule to show doors on CW1, CW9, and CW10 only (to match elevations and floorplans).

Response: CW7 does not have a door.

22) Curtainwall/ Storefront schedule on sheet AS601: CW9 calls for glass type MG#1. CW7 and CW8, which are the sidelite frames of this interior vestibule, call for IL#3. Shouldn’t all of this glass be the same? Also, please advise if the glass for these 3 frames (CW7, CW8, and CW9) needs to change with alternate B (when exterior vestibule is removed).

Response: CW1 and CW9 shall be IL#3. Glazing does not change with acceptance of alternate.

23) Details 19, 20, 21, and 22/AS602 call for window film. However, there is no film make up provided on drawings or in the specs. Please provide a film make up.

Response: All window film shall be frosted film. Basis of Design 3M Fasara; Fine Crystal.

24) Spec Section 083616.13 has a related spec section listed as 081416. There is not spec section 081416. Please provide the correct spec.

Response: Disregard related spec.

25) We need to know what products to use for Acoustical ceilings:

a) ACT 1 we figured out must be USG 97221

b) ACT 2 is described the same way- is it the exact same?

c) Finish schedule on AS603 has several rooms just stating AT?

Response: AT-1 must have an NRC of 1.00. Finish schedule revised.

26) Also reference reflected plan AS111 and finish schedule. I don’t understand room 1C-102 is AT1 and Room

1C-C5 is AT2? Is the North area of 1C-102 a different ACT as well? What is the design intent?

Response: AT-1 and AT-2 may be the same product. AT-1 has a min. required NRC rating. The area north of Reception is part of room 148, which is AT-2.

27) AS102 gen note E. provide control joint at corners of doors and windows. This is not stated in the specs. Is this note for Wall types on AS001 show studs to deck AND kicked 4’ oc. The deck isn’t very high. Are all of these kickers necessary every door?

Response: Where control joints are required, provide them at corners of doors and/or windows. It is the contractor’s responsibility to provide adequate support framing at doors.

28) Drawings AS001 and AS102: Shaft walls on AS102 show wall type S4.D1. Please verify that is actually S4.C1?

Response: S4.D1 should be S4.C1.

29) Drawings AS001 and AS102: S4.D1 Shaft wall is shown at some locations that are not shaft’s, like Team room 1-C-EL1-2 and between Egress Corr and Open Office. Shouldn’t that be a standard stud 2 hour wall (S3.C1)?

Response: Contractor may propose a substitute for consideration after award.

30) Drawings AS001 and AS102: Furred wall S1.F4 in front of concrete walls are only 1’ past ceiling height. Can

S3.F4 also stop at that height if in front of full height CMU wall like next to Utility Shaft in Waiting room?

Response: This is acceptable.

31) Drawings AS001 and AS102: Should room 148A Future HAC have a door?

Response: No door required.

32) Regarding the spec on the curtainwall / blast rating / proper glass markups: my supplier is telling me it will take two weeks once this is received to get a quite put together on the CW. This is because it has to go through preliminary engineering

(which takes about 1.5 weeks), and then gives the estimator a couple days to pull pricing together. Just trying to be proactive and upfront that we will probably need a bid extension on these curtainwalls, unless we just quote the framing and leave the steel, anchoring, and blast rating for a later change order.

33) Door 1-ST-1B is not shown as fire rated on door schedule. The hardware set 10A is calling for ‘fire’ hardware. Please note, this door is found in CW10. Standard curtainwall is NOT fire rated or capable of being fire rated. It would required a completely different system that is an aluminum clad steel curtainwall to be able to achieve a fire rating. Not sure if these systems can meet blast ratings. It this is truly required to be fire rated, we will need a completely different specification for this system. I would look at the following manufacturers for a BOD if this needs to be fire rated: TGP, Saftifirst, Alumflam, (To name a few that offer a fire rated system). Architect would have to do some extra research to see if they offer blast rated products that are fire rated.

Response: 1-ST-1B is not required to be fire rated.

Plumbing

1) The Plumbing plans have no fixture schedule shown. Will a fixture schedule be issued or are the vendors to pick fixtures that meet the fixture specifications?

Clarification: Refer to Specification Section 22 40 00 for fixture specifics.

2) Drawing PL102 shows Double Wall Piping. Will a specification be issued for the Double Wall Piping?

Add the following to Specification Section 22 13 00:

2.9. DOUBLE-CONTAINMENT PIPE AND FITTINGS

2.9.1 Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to the following:

2.9.2 Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirement. Provide products by one of the following:

2.9.2.1 Fischer, George Inc.

2.9.2.2 IPEX Inc.

2.9.2.3 NIBCO INC.

2.9.2.4 Orion Fittings, Inc.; a division of Watts Water Technologies, Inc.

2.9.3 Description: Factory-fabricated, double-wall pipe and fittings. Sizes indicate carrier-pipe size; with carrier (inner) pipe and fittings; annular-space, carrier-pipe supports; containment (outer) pipe and fittings; and joining materials and fasteners. 3) Is Type L copper with press sealed fittings acceptable for 2" and smaller piping on the chilled water, heating hot water, and glycol-water?

Clarification: Type L copper with press sealed fittings is not specified for use for 2" and smaller piping on the chilled water, heating, hot water, or glycol-water piping systems. Only the fittings specified-listed in Specification Section 23 21 13 (solder joints) shall be used.

Mechanical

1) Drawing MI104 shows a clean steam generator detail. Is the clean steam piping material specification the same as the steam piping specification or is it a different material such as stainless steel piping?

Clarification: The steam and condensate piping for clean steam purposes shall utilize the same piping material as specified in the steam piping specification.

2) The Schedule of Cooling Coils and Humidifiers dropped the cooling coil and the humidifier to AHU-1. But

Drawing MP101 shows 4” CHW&R to AHU-1. Also, the Schedule of Steam Pre-Heat Coils dropped the steam coil to AHU-1. But Drawing MP101 show 2” LPSC & LPR to AHU-1. Is AHU-1 to be relocated from the roof or is it a new AHU-1 and if new, just an oversite removing the coils from the coil schedules?

Clarification: Existing AHU-1 on roof shall be removed. Replacement AHU-1 in basement shall be a Daikin, or equal, replacement unit as indicated on Drawings MH102 and MI106. Please refer to schedules on attached Drawing MI102 for Specifics for the CW Coil, the Steam Pre-Heat Coil, the Humidifier and the Steam to Steam Exchanger.

3) If AHU-1 is to be relocated from the roof to the basement, will the basement be unoccupied while AHU-1 is being removed and reinstalled and made operational?

Clarification: Existing AHU-1 on roof shall be removed. Replacement AHU-1 in basement shall be a Daikin, or equal, replacement unit as indicated on Drawings MH102 and MI106.

4) On Drawing M104 there is a Clean Steam Generator Detail. On Drawing MP101, the Clean Steam Generator shows it existing. Is this generator new or existing?

Clarification: Clean Steam Generator for AHU-1 is existing and being reused. Clean Steam Generator for AHU-1-E2 is to be project furnished and installed and referenced as SHX-E1 on Drawings MH301 and MI102.
